(Sophia's point of view)

Finally the day came. The day I get to leave this...this...horrid town. Well, it's not the town, it's the people in it. Judgmental, cruel, mindless, nonintellectual people. I aboarded the plane and took my seat. As the pilot assured the flight crew and passengers of a save flight to our destination. As I got situated j though about how the people of Ireland, at least the ones I had to live with, brought a civil war upon myself. The teasing, the name calling, the mindless abuse, led me to believe my life was not worth living. Then, I got the letter of acceptance from Sydney University, one of the best schools in the world. Tuition free if I play as captain of their football team. Honestly, I couldn't believe this is happening. I was excited to major in History. I know out of all things why that? I love history so, why not? As I was staring at the brochure when a movement in the corner of my eye make me look.
"I'm not sure if this is my seat but, I don't care because you're beautiful" he stranger stated and smiled at me while he sat.I looked down at my lap.
"Insecure, I see" I bit my lip. I heard him chuckle.
"I'm Augustus..." (It's not a preference to TFIOS. I promise I just really like his name lol) He reached his hand over my way. I looked up, smiled and shook his hand.
"Sophia..."
"Native to Ireland I see" I nodded and he smiled once more.
"Shy?"
"Slightly" I said quietly and he looked at me with an "are you serious" look.
"Slightly?" He mocked then chuckled once again.
"Okay, maybe a little more then just a little" I said putting air quote around "a little".He laughed softly looking down then back up at me.
"So, what is a beautiful young woman like you traveling alone for?"
"School" I smiled earning one in return.
"In Sydney also?" I nodded and his smile only grew from there.
"The UNI in Sydney?"
"Yes" I answered with a chuckle.
"This great! I already know someone from the same school as me." I laughed at how foolish he said that and his movement was just adorable.
"I am grateful that I will not be the only one looking like a fool on the first day."
"I'll make sure you don't look like a fool."
"Why would you do that?" I asked and we both put on our belts as the plane turned into the runway.
"Hold on" his voice slightly shook.
"Don't like the take off?" He shook his head. I slowly nodded.
"Here. Take my hand and when you get scared squeeze" he looked at my hand questionably.
"Don't worry. It'll be okay." I assured him. He looked out the window behind me then at my hand. He hesitated before finally taking my hand tightly. I watched him close his eyes and form his lips into and "o" sound. Obviously, taking deep breaths. I looked out the window as we took off and his grip only got tighter. I wince slightly before the plane finally balanced and he released it.
"Thank you" he sighed in relief. I smiled "no problem."
For the rest of the plane ride we laughed at the horrid possibly 70's movie that played for some odd reason. Augustus would mock the actors every time they'd over dramatize the scene. He succeed with making me laugh each time. Which earned a few looks and some hushing but we didn't care. Gus, is what he preferred to be called would look at the passengers that hush them, point at his shoe and say
"You see that dirt? It's American soil. I am an American and I live freely." In a very sassy tone. The other passengers would scoff and look away. He'd look at me with the cheesiest smile ever then he earned another giggle from me. I've learned a lot about Gus. He going to Sydney for a majoring in aerospace. He loved the idea of being able to look up at the "heavens" so he called it. Every day for the rest of his life. I don't blame him. He also like the idea of wonder and says the galaxy is the best place for that. He's from a little town in Michigan. He explained how he grew up to ranting about how much he hated the school system.
"What about you?" He asked
"What?"
"Well, so far we've heard about me. I wanna hear about you."
"Umm" I began playing with my fingers debating if I should tell him.
"Well, I grew up in Ireland. If you can't tell."
"Oh, I can" he quickly replied followed by a little chuckle. I smiled and continued.
"Just typical life I guess."
He observed me as if he know I wasn't telling the truth.
"Alright" was all he said.
"Alright?" He nodded.
"Let's get some sleep yeah? We have a long way ahead of us" he suggested. I nodded in agreement. He looked at his shoulder then at me.
"What?"
"I have a shoulder here that could be soft as a pillow. Well, metaphorically speaking."
"And?"
He rolled his eyes, moved the arm rest that was between us, placed an arm around my shoulder that caused me to lay on his chest.
"Uncomfortable?"
"Just fine, thank you" he smiled and so did I. Soon I found myself falling asleep to the beat of his heart. It was odd. I have never grown so close to anyone is just a short amount of time. Maybe Gus was different.
