Crime and Punishment

The guilt he felt ate him alive, for some
Lives not in past; regrets of life outlive
The time thus spent. Because we all become
Victims of self, we all live lifeless lives

"Confess" said he but only once, for fret
Soon shut him down. "Don't talk" said he after
His doubt, for life would knock him down, and yet
A pain of chest began to gnaw about

"Please talk" again he begged inside, but once
Again his cries soon died, his heart soon grew-
Broke down, he felt nothing but pain; a dunce
He was, without a hat for no one knew

And finally his screams did bring an end
to misery, but still he has no mend
