Just a "Dream".

Chapter 3.

“Work’s going good. I think you too should quit your teaching job and join us. Right Veronica?” Ash winks at Natasha and says.

“Sure..why not” I say as I stretch myself and lie down on the   couch. Ash has made himself comfortable on the recliner on my left while my sister is seated on the other couch infront with Jace who’s fallen asleep on her lap. Natasha smiles at Ash but chooses not to reply.

Ash kind of has a massive crush on Natasha actually. And how do I know this .. well come on I’m 22 and it  isn’t too hard for a 22 year old to know when someone likes someone. And that someone being my employer who I spend my majority time with and the other someone being my sister who I practically live with so you can imagine how hard it was for me to figure this out. Not. But well it’s Natasha who is too oblivious to this reality.

I personally think Ashton and Natasha would make a great couple though Ash and I are kind of frenemies. But to be honest Ash is actually a great guy, he’s charming, friendly, head over heels in love with my sister, gets along with Jace quite well and most of all he’s a not a jerk like Karl. Now who may you ask is Karl. Well Karl Fields is Natasha’s ex-husband.  She met him in high school when she was 17 .He was her clichéd “First Love”.

But the worrying part was Karl Fields was not particularly a “Prince Charming” as my sister thought. He was 27 years old and waited tables at a small café and worked part time as a mechanic. He rented a small flat close to his workplace. He didn’t easily make friends and kept minimum contact with anyone and no one knew anything about his family or background. In short he seemed to be quite mysterious and complicated.

 While our parents had no idea about Karl I was the one who got to know a little bit about him, atleast how much my sister told me. So imagine the look on their faces when one day their 17 year old, doe eyed, sweet, obedient elder daughter says she’s getting married to this guy who’s 10 years her senior. They were shell shocked and obviously didn’t approve, their reason was “How can you get married at 17 to a guy who’s 10 years older to you and who you’ve known just for 2 months?”.Well it obviously didn’t look like a Disney wedding to any of us but Natasha was too blinded by love to think rationally.

 A big scene took place and stuff but finally in 2 weeks they were able to hammer some sense into my sister or so they thought.

It was a Wednesday I remember when we discovered that Natasha is gone. She left. And all she left us with was a torn page from a notebook with something scribbled on it. She said she’s gonna go marry Karl. And just like that she was gone. We came to know a few days later that Karl had quit his 2 jobs, he just told his employers that he’s going home. Two years went by and we had no contact from Natasha or Karl either.

 Then suddenly one fine day she turns up at our door with packed bags and a baby in hand.  She never said what happened or why she came back, all we knew was that she did get married to Karl but things didn’t work out. Our parents didn’t ask either, they were just happy to have their daughter back safe and sound. Guess they just believed that it was a phase in her life when every teen does something stupid. And with Jace’s addition in the family that chapter was easily closed never to be mentioned again. Everything was back to normal and going good until one year back when my parents passed away in a car crash.  

Since then it’s been just Natasha, me and Jace who share this house. Things between me and Natasha have not been very smooth. I guess the 2 years of her absence changed both her and me. Sure we live under the same roof but we’re not as close as we use to be before. After that Karl incident Natasha has like sort of build huge walls around her and she doesn’t let anyone through them.It’s like she has boxed up all the feelings and thrown that box away.  

My sister doesn’t see the affection and love Ash has for her. Her source of happiness and her whole world now is only Jace Fields.
