"The line is too long," Keith gestured at the line to get to the Ferris Wheel. "We should do something else and then come back to it."

"I'll save your spot!" Allura said, because Allura has to be everywhere y'all are. I'm sorry but that's the rules. She happily munched on some kettle corn and settled in to wait in line.

"Are you sure?" Keith asked, scrunching up his face. "You might be standing there for hours."

"Yup! I have kettle corn and Subway Surfers." She waved them away. "Go have fun! Win some prizes!"

"Okay..." Keith turned and grabbed Lance's hand. "What do you want to do first?"

Lance bounced excitedly towards a ring toss booth. "We should do that!" He pointed towards a tiny green and blue teddy bear, hanging sadly from the roof of the tent. "I bet I could win that one."

"Sure," Keith said, and walked over to the booth, hand in hand with his boyfriend.

The day passed in a blur of lights and sound, colored with snapshots of the couple doing different things; Keith bobbing for apples, Lance getting cotton candy on his nose, them sharing a funnel cake.

As if a cruel force wanted to tear them apart, Keith's phone rang. Allura was calling them. They looked across the fair to see her, standing somewhat impatiently at the front of the line. She waved at them.

Keith and Lance exchanged a look, then went running across the park. "Last one there is a rotten uwu!" Keith whooped.

They made it back to the Ferris Wheel just as Allura was being ushered onto the platform.

Lance and Keith climbed into the cart with her. With a diabolical grin, Allura got out. She shot an apologetic frown at the Ferris Wheel employee, who looked at her with malice.

"Sorry." She shrugged. "I forgot that I was scared of heights."

"Hmm..." he mumbled, glaring at her.

"Have fun, you two!" Allura waved at Keith and Lance as she jumped off the platform.

Keith and Lance found themselves blissfully alone once again. The sun was setting behind them. Keith leaned his head on Lance's shoulder. Quietly, they both looked out at the horizon. The carriage rocked slightly as they moved higher into the sky. Below them lay the fair, tiny as a toy, with people milling around in the bright lights.

Lance turned to Keith. He was so close that Keith could smell the cotton candy on his breath. His lips were stained bright red from a popsicle they had shared earlier. Lance inched towards him hesitantly. his eyes were shut tight, head tilted to the side slightly. Keith watched him, captivated by him as he was in the moment, light playing across her face, eyelashes brushing delicately against her skin.

Keith leaned in, closing the distance between them. All at once, his lips were pressed against Lance's, feeling his warmth. His body tingled with electricity. He grabbed Lance's hands, pulled them gently so they were looped around his neck, and pulled his waist closer.

Behind them, fireworks exploded. They pulled apart for a second, surprised, and watched them. Their carriage was almost back to the platform.

They stole one last kiss as the fireworks faded against the deep blue sky.
