Broken Promises

I knew you'd break your promise to me the moment that you made it,
Your friendship meant the world to me, and that encouraged me to not quit.

Even though I know you meant no harm,
I was not so immune to your charm.

You told me you would never replace me, but I can't help but believe otherwise,
Your mouth told me what I wanted to hear, but your actions verified your lies.

To you, I voiced my concerns and feelings more than just one time,
Instead of truly hearing me out, you act like I committed some sort of crime.

You told me I was crazy and that it was all just in my head,
My mood was patient until it began unraveling like loose thread.

You did not like the fact that I made you reflect upon your actions,
When I discussed the faults, you wouldn't acknowledge them even just a fraction.

You're addicted to playing the victim and I didn't play along,
You would rather project your behavior and pretend that only I did something wrong.

I was still willing to give you one more chance after your seemingly empty confession,
But I soon realized that nothing had changed, regardless of your intended impression.

This time when I once again presented you with the facts,
You, like before, didn't like it and left continuing on with the acts.

You cut me out of your life so easily without a word or sign,
It really hurt, but now I'm rebuilding my walls, swearing I'll be fine.

You asked me once why you can't keep friends, so let me offer you some late advice,
When you find a genuine person you connect with, don't take advantage or you'll pay the price.
