Chapter 16

"Its time" Alice says smiling. Right as she says that a deep rumble of thunder shakes the forest around us. Edward and Emmett take their positions in the outfield and Bella and i stand by esme, who plays catcher. Alice pitches with lightning fast speed towards Rosalie, who smashes the ball with the aluminum bat. It cracks like thunder before its followed by real thunder. "Now i get why you need the thunder." Bella says to esme. I nod as well, this is insane. The ball shoots like a meteor deep into the forest, rocketing through the trees. Edward disappears into the forest after it.

"That has to be a home run." Bella tells esme who shakes her head and says "Edwards very fast." Rosalie darts around the bases, looking like a blur when all of a sudden, Edward races out with the ball and throws it to first plate. Esme catches it literally a seconds before Rosalie slides in. "Your out?" Bella says unsure and looks over at esme who nods. Rosalie stands up and glares at Bella. I give rose a small smile to which she grabs my hand and smiles back. We look over to Dr. Cullen stepping up. He hits the ball and Edward and Emmett race to catch it, They both jump up to get it but end up colliding into each other. They miss the ball and Dr. Cullen makes it safe. I giggle while looking over at Edward and Emmett, who were still on the ground laughing.

Its finally jasper's turn, so he grabs the bat and walks up to the plate and tosses the bat around, catching it every time, which i watch amazed. He wacks the next pitch, sending it deep into the forest. Edward goes to chase it but before he get the chance something happens "Stop!" Alice yells "I didn't see them coming" She says making everyone stop. Edward immediately runs over too Bella. Everyone suddenly gathers around "They're traveling so quickly." Alice says grabbing my hand. "But i thought you said they were leaving." Rose says looking confused "Yea they were, then heard us and turned around." Alice say sadly. I look around nervous, why do i have a bad feeling about this.

"Put your hair down" Edward tells Bella. I begin to lightly play with my hair. "Like that'll help. I could smell them from across the field." Rosalie says but It looks like Edward ignores her and moves around Bella's hair some more. "I shouldn't have brought you here. I'm so sorry." He whispers to Bella. I was about to say something when out of the corner of my eye, i see movement. I look over to see three people emerge from the forest. One girl and two boys moving real fast. Their eyes Burgundy red. One if the guys holds up his hand revealing the baseball. "I believe this belongs to you" He tosses the ball, so quickly i didn't even see him move, toward carlisle who easily catches it.

Carlisle smiles politely and says thank you. They smile before the guy says "I'm Laurent. This is Victoria and James." Victoria gives a smirks while waving. "I'm carlisle, This is my family." He says to them calmly. How can he be so calm right now. I wave towards them trying to be polite. "I'm afraid your hunting activities have caused something of a mess for us."

"Our apologies.We didn't realize the territory had been claimed." Laurent says actually sounding sincere. "Yes, we maintain a permanent residence nearby." Carlisle says causing the three newcomers and looked shocked. "Really? Well we wont be a problem any more." Laurent says smiling again. Man this dude likes to smile a lot, its kinda creepy. "The humans were tracking us, but we lead them east. So you should be good." Victoria speaks finally. I bite at my lip hoping we can leave soon. "So, could you use three more players?" Laurent asks smiling. Carlisle thinks about it looking over at Edward who gives the most slightest shake of the head. "Oh come on. Just one game" Laurent says obviously seeing our uneasy looks. Carlisle finally just nods and says. "Of Course, some of us were just about to leave anyways."

They three of them and Carlisle, jasper, Emmett, Rose and Esme head over to play while the rest of us head the opposite way towards the cars. Just as we turn, a gust of wind comes by and whips mine and Bella's hair around. Alice quickly tackles me into a hug and whispers " Stay Calm." I squeeze her but pull back when i hear someone growling. I look over to see James crouched down with his eyes locked on Bella.

"You brought a snack." He says causing Edward to jump in front of Bella baring his teeth. They both growl at each other. All the Cullens run over and stand around Bella and Edward. Laurent and Victoria quickly run up behind James and glare over at us. "The girl is with us" Carlisle says in a very calm voice. Laurent who seems like he doesn't want to be in this situation says " I think its best if we just leave." He begins to back up with Victoria. "James!" He says toward James, who doesn't seem to want to move. Laurent puts his hand on James's shoulder. James finally backs away after a minute. He throws his arm over Victoria's shoulder while smirking before running off.

Carlisle quickly turns around and says "Go! Get Bella out of here!" Edward lifts Bella onto his back and runs over to the car. Alice and i run over to the other car and drive behind Edward and Bella. "Where are we going?" I ask Alice. Edward is speeding down the road which makes Alice speed as well. I grip the seat and look around. "Away from forks, i think. James is a tracker so with her scent, she'll be easy to find here." Alice says gripping the steering wheel. "But if he tries to find her by scent, wont he try to look at our house? Our dads there!" I exclaim looking at Alice. "Your dad will be fine. We'll get someone to watch him. Right now we need to get Bella and you out of here. You got lucky back there but if he finds out that there are not one but two of you associated with us, he'll come after you next." Alice says.

I shake my head and close my eyes. "Take me home" I says to Alice in a serious tone. I will not bring dad in to all this and i'm certainly not leaving him unprotected. Alice doesn't say anything for a while. I watch as Edward takes a turn, down our street? Bella must have forced him to take her home as well. Alice turns and stops the car one driveway away from ours. I look over at her confused. "Bella's gonna handle it." She says calming me. Maybe i should go in to. I go to grab the handle when Alice places her hand on my shoulder stopping me. I look over at her and she shakes her head "It'll be fine." I sigh and shake my head before jumping out and running over. I catch up to Bella right before she goes in.

"Edward, I said leave me alone!" Bella yells while pulling me inside our house. "Bella, don't do this, please." Edwards pleads. " Just leave, Its over!" Bella yells before slamming the door. Dad stands up and walks over to us. " Bella, Becca? What happened? " Bella shakes her head before running upstairs. "I have to get out of this place. Out of forks. I'm leaving. Now" Dad hurries up after her. I hear a door slam and flinch. I hear dad knocking on her door "Bells. Did he hurt you?" He says sounding so sad. I hear them talk a little but decide to not interfere. After a while Bella runs down the stairs carrying a duffel bag, with dad behind her.

"Your mothers not even in phoenix." Dad says. "She'll come home. Ill call her from the road." Bella says not looking him in the eyes. "You can't drive home now. Ill take you to the airport in the morning" He says trying to convince her to stay. "No, i want to drive. I need time to think. Ill pull into a motel in a few hours. I promise." She says while walking over to the door. Dad quickly blocks her and says " Bells, I know i'm not around much, but i can change that. We can do more thing together." Bella takes a breathe before saying "Like what, watch more baseball on the flat screen? Eat at the diner every night? Steak and cobbler? Dad that's you and becca. That's not me." She says looking down. I'm crying by now. "Bella, come on. I just..i just got you back." He says, his voice breaking. I hate seeing him like this. "If i don't get out now, I'm just gonna be stuck here like mom" She says before walking out. I stand there for a moment in shock. Out of everything she could have said, why that?

I walk up behind dad and put my hand on his arm "Ill make sure she is safe." He nods. I hug him quickly before walking out the door and into the car. I lean my head against the window and sigh. Why did this have to happen?
