Once again everyone was laying around in Caleb's living room, glass coke bottles and the occasional beers roaming the coffee table. Finn was sprawled out on the cushioned couch watching the football game playing on the TV, vaguely interested. His mind wandered to his past, trying to remember the scarce yellow memories of his childhood before his family was broken. He couldn't find any.
Millie was sitting with Sadie as she chatted about the typical high-school drama, but Millie was to busy eyeing the far off boy on the other side of the room. His disguise of being the into the sport wore off as she looked at his eyes as they led to a blank space. Ever since she saw who Finn has become she wasn't going to give up, not on him. It was strange, Millie wasn't one to hate someone. She always found herself finding the good or at least trying to find the good in everyone. Something that her few friends admired. Millie only had few friends due to people finding it odd, mostly snarky girls, found her outgoing yet aggressive attitude quite weird. Especially Nina, hung on the one time Millie bit and punched her for calling her crazy in the first grade. Finn calmed her down that day but also gave her a high five for courage.
"Are you even listening to what I just said?" Sadie questioned as she noticed Milles off mood, it was all Finns fault. He flipped Millie's life upside down.
Millie quickly turned her head towards the ginger with a surprised expression.
"W-what?" Millie asked as her cheeks flushed.
"Millie...." Sadie prolonged her name as she gave a caring look.
"I'm so sorry Sadie. I know I'm being a horrible person I should listen. Here, what were you saying." Millie apologized as she clasped her hands, turned the direction to Sadie, and ignored the nagging thoughts of Finn.
"I'm not going to let you do this to yourself." Sadie shook her head as Millie quirked an eyebrow. Sadie grabbed Millie's hand and led her to the backyard, where Finn and Millie has their first argument.
Stop it Millie.
They sat down on the creaky oak bench, Millie held a confused look.
"Look Millie, you are such a nice person. And I know how much Finn means to you but he's obviously not the same." Sadie was talking in a motherly tone as Millie looked up like a lost duckling.
"Think about it. We don't know what Finn went through with his dad but it obviously changed him. And I don't think we can-."
"Sadie, I know, I know. But trust me, I have a feeling he's somewhere in there. Just let me try, please." Millie has such a hopeful look, her hazel doe eyes wide. Sadie couldn't help but nod.
"Ok."

Once the girls came back in Millie had a faint grin on her face as she adjusted her yellow hoodie and touched up her hair. She saw Finn from a distance in his same state of mind. Millie walked across the wide space and made it to the grey couch opposite from where she was previously on. Finn hadn't seem to notice Millie contemplating on sitting down or not, but he felt the small weight sink down beside him.
"Hello." Millie said in a confident tone. Finn gave her his usual scrunched eyebrow look, then saluted her.
"What are you doing?" Millie kept talking since she didn't receive an answer.
"Watching the game. Can't you see?" He said in a obvious tone and pointed to the game he didn't give one damn about.
"No you're not." Millie said as she tried looking for his eyes or a sense of connection, nothing. Finn didn't like Millie staring at him, not one bit. He didn't enjoy being observed or figured out, it made him feel small and weak.
"Stop it." Finn said in a warning tone. Millie held in a smile, she knew he didn't like that kind of exposure.
"Stop what?" Millie tilted her head as if she was some confused puppy.
"You know what you're doing." He said in a low growl, looking down at his red checkered vans.
"I don't know what you're thinking though, even though I know it's bothering you." Millie finally caught his eyes and they held a stare. Both eyes contrasting against each other. A dark onyx with golden eyes, both wide and filled with mysteries and their true souls, the saying that eyes are the window of the soul was more believable in the moment.
"Maybe it won't bother you as much if you...talk about it." Millie was hesitant, not wanting to get barked at by the closed person in front of her. Finn looked at her, it wasn't his now usual snarky look he gave everyone, but an examining look. There was something in his eyes at the moment that Millie couldn't help but notice, happiness.
"Why should I tell you anything?" There it was, Finn. Millie slouched as she felt stupid for ever thinking maybe Finn would tell her something.
"I don't know, um maybe because you've known me for a long time." Millie shrugged and looked in a different location other than his dark eyes.
"That doesn't have to do with anything." Finn said, as tension in the room grew. Finn was scared you could say, he was scared of friendship. Of this particular one with Millie, it would be the best yet worst thing that could ever happen.
"Why do you hate me so much?" Millie said as she squinted her eyes in a menacing way, but her lips were in a soft pout. Finn chuckled at the sight and Millie's question.
"How can I hate you I don't even know you." Finn grabbed a half filled Corona beer bottle and took a swig, the bitter taste flooding in his mouth. Millie looked with menacing eyes but a deeper pout, a hurt one.
"What?" Said Millie, how in the world could he say that? Like if they didn't build millions of memories and went through so much together.
"I know that we know each other as people, but it's been awhile, how can I know I can trust you?" Finn said as he stood up, not wanting to share any more information with the brunette girl. He walked in the direction of the kitchen, where everyone went a while ago but was stopped by her voice again. Could this girl shut up already?
"You can hang out with me." Millie raised her head a little higher and put on a small proud grin. Finn raised his eyebrows.
"What do you mean?"
"We can catch up, without arguing, and maybe you can see if you trust me or not." Millie said as she had everything in place. All he had to do was say yes.
"Sure why not." Finn had a sarcastic smile at the girls pathetic try to get him to break.
"Ok, meet me at the old turquoise pond in the woods at 5 tomorrow." Millie bit her lip as she exposed the location of their meeting. Finns eyes went wide but then recollected himself. It's been a long time since he's thought of that place, the one place where he had the best moments of his life.
"Ok." He said as he rocked on his heels with an awkward smile. Millie nodded, as she was well aware of her plan now.
She was going to get her Finn back.
AN: [filler]low key hate this but I want to move on in the story since I feel like it's pretty boring rn. Sorry
