Chapter 1 (Gatorade)
I fixed my hair behind my ears as I walked down the hall to our class.
"Hey, give her way!"
The crowd in front of me was pushing for me to pass.
Their eyes widened as if they were scared. I took a deep breath and didn't glance at them again.
"It's her! What are you doing there?! Give her a way! That's Ezekiel's girlfriend!" I felt a surge of adrenaline as I tried to make my way through the crowd.
"Well, she's pretty."
"Because of Ezekiel, of course! Tsk!"
"You might be heard!"
I rolled my eyes exhaustedly. Giving them such attention is not my obligation. I am tired of being famous. I am tired of being the spoiled daughter of Alexander and Clarisse Del Real.
I don't like their attention. I don't like those expensive bags, bling-bling, and stuff. I don't like being me. I just want to be free from all of this. I want to find my own identity, away from the expectations and judgments of others. I want to be known for who I am, not for who my parents are or who my boyfriend is. I just want to be seen and appreciated for the person that I truly am.
But despite what I don't like, I like someone. I love Ezekiel so much. I love him to the point where I hate my parents for hating him.
They don't like Ezekiel because he's so mean and rude sometimes. But what do they know? Do they know anything about him? No!
Outside the auditorium of our school, I could hear the footsteps of shoes and the noise of basketball players.
He likes basketball and soccer. He's now in his fourth year of college. His course was business management while I was in my first year.
I saw him grab the ball from one and throw it high. The girls screamed to shoot it.
I smiled slightly and sat in the bleachers. The mineral bottle and wipes were in hand for him.
The game continued. I saw their gesture and Ezekiel grabbing the ball, but Antonio immediately grabbed the ball from him! That boy! He always had to ruin the game.
Their screams for Antonio got louder, and he scored three points. The boy smirked at Ezekiel, and he gave him a dirty finger before laughing.
One elbowed Ezekiel and pointed at me. My heart skipped a beat when he looked at me, and his eyes landed on me.
Damn it! Just one look makes me melt too much.
Their game ended a few minutes ago. He comes close to me after some praise for their winning team.
Sweat was dripping from his body when he sat next to me. I was shocked when he removed his jersey shirt in front of me and kissed me on the forehead.
"I'm sorry you waited. Are you hungry?" he asked as I handed him the towel.
I shook my head and snorted. "I ate earlier. Actually, I brought you cookies."
My hobby is making cookies whenever I have nothing to do. When I am at home, our fridge is filled with cookies because of me.
He smiled and touched my cheek before squeezing. "Hm, really, huh. Alright, where are you going later?"
Before I could answer, a woman approached him, never mind that there were three of them. The two were behind the woman I knew that Ezekiel used to be friends with.
"Hi Ez! Gatorade for you."
"Oh, thanks, Paula." Ezekiel took it. My heart sank when I saw him put aside the mineral water that I gave him and open the gatorade the woman gave instead.
Paula giggled and raised her eyebrows to look at me.
"Oh, hi Lisa! I hope you won't be offended, huh?" She told me. I know her smile is as fake as her eyebrows!
I just looked at her without any emotion. I can feel my heart clenching. I feel the pain. I can feel the jealousy in my system.
"Why am I offended by your gatorade? My mineral water is more expensive, while your gatorade is worth a cheap price. Just what the hell. ., right? You had the guts to ask me that way? Think again.." I could sense the tension rising between us as Paula's fake smile faltered. I decided to keep my cool and simply replied, "No offense taken, Paula. Enjoy your gatorade."
Ezekiel frowned and pulled my hand away. I saw Paula blush at me for embarrassing her. I purposely tone my voice high so that others can hear it.
Ezekiel pulled me out of the gym. His grip almost marked my wrist.
"Ezekiel, you left the gatorade inside." I reminded him.
He didn't say a word, and when he reached the parking lot, he let go of my wrist.
"You embarrass her, Lisa!" He fired.
I took a deep breath and looked at him carefully. He closed his eyes gently and held me by the arm.
"I'm sorry, baby." but then he apologized. I knew it was too late to fix things.
"I brought you fucking water, but you chose that fucking gatorade. You know what, Ezekiel? It's like you just showed me that you chose her over me."
I didn't raise my voice this time, but I'd make sure he would feel what I felt. My eyes blurred because of my tears. Before it dripped, I immediately wiped it off.
He pulled me away. "It's not like that. Sorry, okay? It won't happen again," he said to me, touching both my cheeks.
I didn't show any emotions. "It won't happen again because I'm not going to see you there anymore."
He stopped and combed through his hair. He licked his lower lip sexily and smirked.
"So, I won't play basketball there either. Just don't be angry anymore."
I crossed my arms. Before I could speak, he brushed his lips against mine. I pushed him away, feeling a mix of confusion and anger. "No, this is not okay," I finally managed to say, my voice trembling.
