The next day, the arena was a crowd with audience members, chair people, awaiting trainers, and champions. The feeling of anxiety, nervousness was among all trainers participating in this year's league. Our heroes are now gathered in the stands, waiting for the first battle against Trevor and the mysterious girl. Ash will finally find out her name, and he cannot wait. Maybe her name will be something elegant, graceful, and mysterious.

His thoughts were interrupted though, due to a giant Pokéball being open down near the back of the arena where all the prestigious people sit. The Pokéball opens due to two girls opening it, baby Fletchling fly out of the ball as a way to open the league and officially allow it to begin. Then, a presenter opens the league by saying their welcome to the trainers and asking Diantha for a few words.

She stands up from her seat next to professor Sycamore and walks towards the balcony of her area. "Trainers, it is my honour to open the 53rd Kalos league. I cannot wait to see all your hard work and dedication today on this stage. As well as all the different types of Pokémon you have to showcase. Good luck to you all, and have a wonderful time here!" She finishes, waving her hand in the air.

Cheers upon cheers filled the stadium, with Diantha sitting back down in her chair. "So, who's this girl you've kept telling me about, Professor?" Diantha asks Professor Sycamore, "You'll see her very soon. She's the first battle, after all." He answers her. "Trust me, she's amazing."

"The field today for the first battle will be... A desert arena!" The presenter exclaims. The arena is just sandy with a bunch of rocks lying around aimlessly.

"Now to meet our first contestants in this year's league. Please welcome, Trevor of Lumiose City!" Trevor walks out, nervousness floods out of him and is obvious to everyone there. "And to the left, is a girl from Snowpoint City in Sinnoh..." Ash waits for him to reveal her name, leaning in closer to the stage.

"Why does-!" Serena's thoughts are stopped by Ash's hand. He wasn't going to miss hearing her name being called, definitely not. "Hannah Abernathy!" He finally heard it. Her name. It wasn't as amazing as he thought it would be. It was normal, and he liked it. Just then, this Hannah walks onto the stage, her bright blue eyes glancing around the arena and then to Trevor. She looks him dead in the eye, giving him a strict look of cruelness.

Trevor shuddered, stepping back a bit as if the look was too much. Trevor snapped out of it immediately and looked at Hannah trying to imitate the look he just gave her, only to fail miserably, shown by Hannah rolling her eyes. After the referee clarifies the rules, Trevor sends out his Pokémon first.

"Alright, let's go! Charizard!" The said Charizard is released from its Pokéball and lets out a mighty roar, which makes everyone in the arena cower back a little in fear. Well, not Hannah. She stands there, not moving, waiting for the Charizard to stop yelling. When it does, a smirk appears on her face. Her Weavile giving her a smirk as well, before Hannah mutters, "Overachievers look desperate." No one heard except for her and Weavile.

"Why isn't she doing anything? It's a battle! Not a staring competition!" Serena then begins to complain. "This competition is on a tight schedule!"

"Calm down, Serena." Bonnie says to her, tired of her complaining, "She's obviously observing her opponent, a very good strategy, trying to get into his head." Serena then pouts in her chair, annoyed no one cares about her rants.

Ash this whole time has been watching Hannah's movements, the glare, smirking at her Weavile, the muttering. Ash then noticed Hannah touch a Pokéball on her neck and hold it. The Pokéball still in her grasp, she reaches out for her belt to grab her first Pokéball. The cruel look is swapped with a calculative one, and she exclaims "Go! Laura!" The Pokéball leaves her hand and flies in the air.
