Chapter Four-
I looked at my watch as I got out of the taxi. "Damn I'm late." I was suppose to meet Ava and the rest of the small other group of people at 8, it was now 8:26. I walked into Brasserie, looking around. "Miles Danes table for four" I said to a man standing at the host post at the entry of the restaurant. "Miss Danes, right this way please." He smiled walking towards the back of the restaurant, I followed behind him closely black cheetah heels silently imitating his footsteps.
"Surprise!"
I jumped my hand falling over my chest in shock. "Shit you scared me!" I managed to get out half out of breath. I should have expected it, but for some reason I let my guard down "damn it Miles." I muttered softly to myself. "Ava! I should have known!" I said walking over hugging her, then pulling away and lightly hitting her arm playfully.
"Got you good ha ha ha" she giggled. "Miles!!!" I heard my name as I turned around facing my mom. "Hi mom, where's dad?" she pointed to the grey haired old man sitting in a chair munching on cheese and crackers, I shook my head laughing. "I should have known, dad's always been quite the snacker." "Yes he is..so dear the big Three Oh. I remember being 30 and in my prime, wonderful age, enjoy it while it lasts, pretty soon you'll be an old geezer like me and your father." She laughed patting my back. I gulped hard not wanting to think about being any older then I had to be. "Samuel, save some for the rest of the guests!" And like that my mom was off tearing my father away from the food. I laughed just as Sadie and Ava walked over, along with Landon and Sadie's husband Aaron. "Hey birthday girl, give me a hug" Sadie said holding her arms out and hugging me tightly. "Hey Sadie, hey guys. Thank you all by the way" I managed to say between squeezes. "Happy birthday Miles." Landon and Aaron said in unison. "Thanks"
I hugged Landon and Aaron together. "Come get some food we had the chef make salmon and chicken it came with rice and vegetables, it's delicious." I nodded following Ava to the food table grabbing a plate and serving myself a grilled chicken breast rice and vegetables. "Don't forget the wine" Sadie added. "Me forget wine, I would never!" I laughed grabbing a pre poured glass of red wine, walking to a table with a bouquet of balloons I assumed was where I was suppose to sit. I sat down staring at my plate, I was starving and the food looked amazing, I cut up my chicken taking a bite as Ava stood up a glass of wine in her hand. I watched as she clanged a butter knife against her glass. "Can I have everyone's attention, I would like to say a few words about our guest of honor aka my best friend Miles" Everyone's head turned to face Ava as she smiled widely, looking towards me. "Miles we've been best friends for years, you've been there for me through good times bad times silly times and everything in between. We've managed to get each other through a lot and I want you to know I will always be here for you as well, you are my best friend and I can't wait to be there when you meet Mr. Right, Please don't think of 30 as your death, but as your prime. You are gorgeous, and just thriving in life, so let us raise our glasses to the birthday girl, Love You Miles!" I blushed feeling completely embarrassed and yet touched by her speech, I clapped along with the other guests, whom where now surrounding my table hugging, kissing, patting and smiling at me. "Oh and one more thing,,," I watched as Landon and Aaron wheeled out a large cake, it was shaped as a huge dark brown book with white pages and on the cover it read ' Just The Beginning Miles Danes, Happy Birthday'. I smiled widely as they sang Happy Birthday to me. It was so well done, and looked delicious. "Now make a wish" Ava said in a chipper town as she took a sip of her wine. I knew exactly what I was going to wish for, I closed my Eyes as I leaned forward blowing out all 30 candles. Question was would my wish come true?

Chapter Five-
Finally the large group of my family and friends cleared out of the restaurant, the only ones left were Ava Landon Sadie and Aaron. "Were on our way home Katie, yes we'll be there in 15. Bye. I'm sorry honey our sitter's throwing a hissy fit because it's after midnight so we need to get home." I nodded smiling "No problem thank you both so much, it was wonderful seeing you." "Happy Birthday honey." Sadie said hugging me, as I hugged her and Aaron. "Yeah Happy Birthday Sweetie." Aaron said planting a kiss on my cheek.
"Guess I better get going home too." I said biting my lower lip as Ava and Landon were staring into each other's eyes. "Yeah I'm defiantly going home." I laughed, making fun of their goo goo eyes. "Oh what, sorry" Ava said with a small smirk followed by a wink at Landon. "Exactly." I laughed gathering up my present bags. "Here let me help you get those." Landon said grabbing mostly all of them walking with me towards the door. Ava held the door leading outside for us. "Taxi!" she yelled flagging one down. Landon and I loaded the presents in the cab, I turned hugging Landon then Ava "Thank you soo much, I love you guys." "Love you too, and your welcome" Ava muttered as they both waved. I got into the cab shutting the door behind me. "420 80th St please" I had tons of bags I wondered what was inside, I opened a shimmer blue bag with tons of pink tissue paper stuffed in it. I removed all the paper revealing a set of 'Coco Chanel' perfume bottles, I smiled. I pushed it back in the bag grabbing a cheetah bag with matching cheetah paper opening it pulling out a short corset cheetah dress and matching heels, my eyes opened wide.
"Let me guess Aunt CiCi." looking at the tag I realized I was right, I laughed shaking my head. "Here we are that'll be $7.86"
"Here you go, keep the change." I said handing him the money. I peered up at the dark blue sky, a large white half moon staring down at the city. I swiftly walked into the loft leading to my apartment, holding the gift bags and heading to the elevator pressing the up button. As I waited for the elevator to stop
I shifted my weight from leg to leg. "Come on hurry up already, yes finally."
The presents were a lot heavier than I thought, I struggled walking into the elevator with all the presents in hand hoping none would fall. I reached my apt setting the presents down and unlocking the door, shoving it open and taking everything inside. "Burrr." The apartment was freezing as I felt a shiver chase it's way up my spine. I set the packages down on my living room table. "Twinkie, are you starving buddy, I'll feed you right ok sweetie." Twinkie stared up at me wagging his long golden tail. I grabbed the dog food bag pouring some in his bowl setting it down and pouring a cup of water into his bowl.
"There you go baby." Twinkie bent down gobbling up his food quickly then licking the sides of his bowl.
"Woah you were starving huh baby." I giggled walking towards the bedroom, as Twinkie finished his food following me into the room laying down on the floor. I put the same pajamas back on getting in bed laying down staring at my ceiling. I still couldn't process that I was actually 30. I sighed thinking about my 21st birthday going to Las Vegas partying all night and clubbing."That was a crazy week" I said to myself laughing at the fun memories, life was flying by and I was still not at my dream job, and single. Like most women I had hoped to be married with at least one kid by age 30. Thinking about still being a single and not having reached my dream job was depressing. I groaned leaning over and turning off my lamp shutting my eyes and drifting off into a deep slumber.
