Chapter Twenty
"Damn it! Where the heck are my black heels?" I ran around my apartment searching high and low for my black heels. I sighed turning around and looking at the huge mess I had made looking for my shoes.
"Roof"
Twinkie barked dropping one of my black heels unharmed at my feet. "Yeah but I still can't find my..." Twinkie walked away returning with the matching shoe. "Twinkie did you hide my shoes?" I didn't have time I slipped my black heels on grabbing my black pea coat and purse rushing out the door. I pushed the button for the elevator waiting as I peered down at my watch 15 to six. "Hurry Up!" I yelled at the elevator. I could see Miss Wilder walking up, a real piece of work. I smiled being polite. "Hello" She nodded "Do you happen to know what the year is?" I looked at her raising an eyebrow.
"2015" she nodded then walked on. She was always talking to herself and yelling at herself. The elevator finally opened revealing Carson, single father of 5 his wife Janice went to prison for Selling drugs right out of their house, I felt bad for him. "Hey Miles." I smiled "Hey Carson how are the kids?" He seemed surprised that I asked, no one ever asked about the kids because of the situation. "There good actually, they're at my mom's right now, she's taking them to Central park tomorrow so they're staying the night with her." I smiled wider walking past him waving "See you later Miles"
"Bye Carson"
As the elevator slowly moved down I glanced down at my watch again, Tinkerbell stared back at me as the hands moved. I shook my head walking out of the doors as they opened, my black heels clicking against the floor and out onto the busy streets of New York City. I thought about taking the subway but I didn't have time to. I held my hand out hailing a cab.
"Hey Nancy Girls."
"Ok I know where it's at." The man said starting to drive. "The sooner the better please." He nodded driving slightly faster.

"Thanks bye." I slammed the cab door shut running inside. "Late miss."
Lacey smirked at me shaking her head playfully "Sorry Lacey I couldn't find my shoes my dog hid them." She smiled "Alright alright sorry." I walked behind the bar seeing what needed to be restocked making a mental note then headed for the basement. Lacey followed going into the back room. I grabbed a bag of ice climbing the stairs, opening the bag and pouring the ice into cooler at the bar. Sid smiled setting her phone down behind the bar. "Someone's Smiling" I laughed. "Yes I am, I had a great night, last night." Sid's smiled widened as Lacey walked up
"That's good, I'm happy for you Sid." Lacey said stealing the words right out of my mouth. "What she said" I giggled closing the ice chest, walking back down into the basement.
I continued grabbing items going to and from the basement repeatedly until the bar was fully stocked. A few girls had showed up by the time I was done. "Hey Miles" Kylie said winking. "Hey how are you?" She took a drink of her margarita. "Good just here with a few friends." She looked over towards 4 other girls sitting at a table talking "It's my birthday I'm 30 today!" she announced happily as her friends all cheered together raising their glasses.
"Happy Birthday." I managed to choke out, I couldn't believe she was so happy and excited. Maybe turning thirty really wasn't a death sentence. "Well here's a shot on me." I poured a shot of vodka shoving it towards her. "Only if you take one with me" I smiled "Alright." I poured a second shot holding it up. "Happy Birthday!" we clanked glasses gulping down the shot. "Whoo!" She yelled, as she walked back to her friends.

The night passed by quicker then I had thought more of Kylie's friends had come including some guys, I hadn't seen any guys in the bar before.
"I've never seen guys in here before." I whispered to Lacey. "Yeah not many come in, a few gay guys and once in a great while you get a straight one." She chuckled handing a shot to an older lady. "I just assumed they weren't allowed in here." "As long as they follow the rules there fine." I nodded handing one of Kylie's friends her drink, starting to pour another one for one of the guys.
The guy smiled just waiting for his Jack and Coke "Here you go."
"Thanks." He said as he handed me a twenty dollar bill. "Keep the change." My smile widened "Thank you." I mumbled as he walked back to his table. "The guys usually tip pretty well, maybe they think they will get some lesbian action I don't know." Lacey laughed leaning back against the bar with her arms crossed over her chest. I barely heard what she said, I couldn't help but staring down her low cut blue halter top. I shook my head closing my eyes trying to focus.
"Yeah." I managed to finally say after a few moments of silence, I hoped she didn't notice. "So I really like Ava, it'll be nice to go out to lunch with you guys, I just hope you don't feel like I'm intruding on your time with her. "
"What, no way, I'm glad you're coming, the more the merrier I'm not too good at wedding planning, Ava can definitely use someone who might know something about wedding stuff, cause I sure don't." I couldn't help but laugh, I was horrible at picking out flowers and colors.
Lacey laughed as well. "Well I don't know how good I will be at helping but I will try, I never really thought about my wedding before." I looked at her. "Why not?" I asked. "Because same sex marriage barely became legal in New York City, so I never really thought I could get married here until recently." I hadn't really thought about gay rights, I wasn't big on politics. All I could do was nod. Maybe I should starting thinking about this stuff more I thought to myself. "1 mango margarita please." I snapped out of my thoughts. "Sure coming right up."
