Smile Like You Mean It

Two days pasted by fast. Vic and I have been watching movie and talking about a bunch of stuff that happened in my past. I told him about Roselyn. What had happened before I met him. She was my world even if I wasn't the one raising her. I cried several times over those two days because I missed my daughter so much. I just wanted to have her back in my life. I don't care if I am raising her or not I just want to be able to see her everyday.

“Kali come down here. I want you to see something.” Kathy and Kellin called from downstairs. Vic and I went down to see what they were talking about. When we walked into the living room I saw four people other than my brother and his fiancee. Two of them I sorta recognized but I couldn't place from where. “Kali, this is Ryan and Maria. This is their oldest son Alexander, and their daughter.” Kathy told me. I knew the names. They were the same names of the people who adopted Roselyn.

“It's nice to meet you all. My name is Kali Quinn I am Kellin's little sister and this is my boyfriend Vic.” I said trying not to sound sad because it was my little girls birthday. I looked at the little girl that was standing their, she had Alex's eyes and my cheekbones. But it couldn't be little Roselyn. I had to convince myself this couple is not the same couple that adopted my little girl and that girl was not mine. “Kali, would you like to see your daughter again? Kellin would you like to see your niece again?” Ryan asked us and I was tearing up so was my brother. “Yes.” We both answered trying not to cry.

“Roselyn, come here sweetheart. This is your mommy she is the one that you came from. She has missed you a lot in the past four years. This nice man right here is your uncle Kellin. He is your mommy's brother.” Maria said to the little girl. She pulled out a picture that I had left with the family of me, Kellin and Roselyn. She started to cry just as I did. This little girl was mine and I didn't even recognize her. She ran up and hugged me. I picked her up trying to make her stop crying but with me crying as well it was kind of hard. “Mommy, why did you not want me?” she asked through the tears and I could see pain in her eyes.

I sat down on the couch with Kellin next to me picking Roselyn up from my lap. I couldn't even speak after she asked that. I finally found my voice after a minute or two. “I did want you baby. Its just mommy was young and wasn't sure she could take care of you or not. I never wanted to let you go baby girl. I loved you more than anything in this world. As a matter of fact I have been crying myself to sleep the last few days because I missed you. I used to cry myself to sleep right after I gave you up because I was losing something that was mine.” I cried even harder just saying that to her.

“Kali, the surprise Kellin wanted to give you is right here. All you have to so is sigh these.” Ryan and Maria said together. I looked down at the papers after Vic dried my eyes. It was adoption papers. I looked up at them and asked, “Are you guys serious? You will let me have Rose back?” The nodded their heads and I looked at my little girl who was smiling at Vic. They were playing a game that I used to play as a little kid with my dad. “Rose sweetheart do you wanna live with momma?” I asked her because it was her choice to make. I didn't want to take her away from some place she was happy. She looked at me and smiled. “Really mommy? Yes I would love to live with you.” She ran up and hugged me. I looked at Vic who just smiled and nodded his head knowing I was going to ask him if he wanted to be with me and Roselyn as a family. “Ok baby. Victor-bear can you get me a pen?” Vic came back with the pen I used when he and I were writing letters to each other while Kellin and Kathy were out of town a few months ago. I signed the papers and as of 4:30 pm Roselyn was both biologically and legally my daughter.

Kathy and Kellin went to Ryan and Maria's to get Roselyn's stuff. Vic and I turned the guest room Kellin had into a bedroom for OUR little girl. I knew Alex was going to come over and see his daughter but in my eyes Roselyn Marie Quinn belonged to both Victor Vincent Fuentes and Kali Quinn.
