B U N N Y
Kat finally made it back from her meeting. I still don't know how I feel about her moving to California.
I stood in the kitchen, watching her fix dinner. My stomach grumbles at the sight of the different dishes she made. Mushroom soup, bitter greens with tomatoes the size of peas, rare roast beef slices as thin as paper, noodles in a green sauce, cheese that melts on your tongue served with sweet blue grapes. She moves wordlessly to and from the table, preparing our plates. It was just the two of us for tonight.
My body, however, reacted differently to the sight of her walking around in her—burgundy colored—triangle-cut bra and matching set of shorts.
"Want to talk about it?"she asks, making me stiffen as she speaks to me.
"No," I answered dryly, still lost in my own thoughts.
"You can't keep avoiding the subject,"she tells me.
"I'm not..." I sighed, leaning on the counter near the stove, huffing.
She smiles and walks over, giving me a quick kiss before she set out the rest of the food, taking our plates into the living area.
She sits on the couch with her plate and I went to sit beside her. She places her legs over my lap, lying her back against the armrest as I sat my plate on top of her.
Everything seemed perfectly fine at first. We were watching tv while finishing up our food.
"I called my parents,"she says, breaking the silence. "They're really happy for me."
"It's a big opportunity..."
"Yeah,"she continues. "Cecilia wants to take everyone out to celebrate."
I knew where this was going.
"I'm not really in a partying mood, but you guys have fun." I escaped into the kitchen, washing my dish and placing it back into the rack to dry. Kat walks in.
"I don't want to go if you're not going,"she tells me.
"Don't let me ruin your day. Go and have fun. Really, I'll be here when you get back."
"Stop it."
"Stop what?"
"Stop pretending that you're okay with everything. I don't blame you if you're mad at me! If you don't want me to go then say it, don't lie and pretend to be happy for me when you're clearly not!"she snaps.
I took ahold of her hand, wiping her face clean. "I am happy for you. Really, I am! It's just the fact of us being that far away from each other..."
She smiles, pressing her forehead onto mines. "We don't have to be apart. You can come with me. Please?"
"Kathleen..."
"Think about it! Just tell me you'll think about it."
"I'll think about it," I hesitantly looked up at her. The swirls of emotion I saw there made me gasp. Lust and desire. However, before I could ponder about it further, she yanked me to her and covered my mouth with hers in a hungry kiss.
As our lips crushed together, I felt like I was walking on air. It was magic, the way her lips connected with mine. Her mouth was so warm, the caress of her lips softer than I could have imagined and I opened my mouth with a low moan.
"Do we have to go out and celebrate?" I ask, picking up her hand, studying the way they felt against mine. She smiles, lacing her fingers with mine as she leans over, kissing the tip of my nose.
