The rest of class went by pretty smoothly, except for the fact that I could feel eyes on me from both sides. I tried to ignore them, I really did. As soon as the bell rang, I grabbed my stuff and booked it out the door. I only had to get through two more classes and then it'll be time for lunch. I got through AP Chemistry and Government without seeing Mason or Caden, so maybe I'll be able to avoid them for the rest of the day.
The bell rings signaling that it's time for lunch, as I make my way down the hall, I hear someone calling my name. I turn around and see Chloe running towards me. I smile as she falls into step with me, "hey, how was class?" She groans and throws her head back," I was so bored and you know how I much I hate running." I laugh and shake my head at her. We make our way into the cafeteria and scan the room for Derrick and Bryce. Once I spot Derrick, Chloe and I quickly make our way over to him.
"Hey," I say sitting next to him, "how was class?" I look over at him as he answers," it was okay. I had my first two classes with Bryce and then after that I had Band." Oh I forgot to mention that Derrick was a little bit of a band geek. I look up as Bryce takes a seat next to Chloe and we smile at each other. I start to zone out once they all start talking about their day so far. I can't help but think about how I finally know what color Caden's eyes are, and they're the most beautiful blue I've ever seen. They're like a dark, ocean type blue. Wait. Why am I thinking about Caden's eyes?
I shake my head to clear my thoughts just as Chloe nudges my side, "Cora," she hisses, "why is Mason Woods staring you down?" I look at her confused and she points over to a table full of jocks and cheerleaders and sure enough, Mason fucking Woods is staring right at me. And what do I do? I give him the finger and turn back to my friends who are all staring at me with wide eyes. "What. The. Fuck. Was. That," Derrick asks with wide eyes. I just shrugs and try to change the topic, but they were not having that. So I decided to tell them what happened in my English class this morning.
Once I'm finished telling them everything, they sit there staring at me with their mouths open. "Damn guys, you're gonna catch flies like that," I say with an amused smile. Chloe is the first one to speak, "you're screwed dude," she says with a look a pure pity. "Why is that," I ask with a confused smile. "You got in between the two most popular guys at our school, and you think everything is just going to be okay," Chloe shouts as she stands up and slams her hands on the table. A few heads turn in our direction and I quickly pull Chloe back down. "Shut up!" I hiss at her, "what is your deal?" She just sighs and looks at me, "I just don't want you falling in love with one of them and end up getting hurt." I burst into laughter and almost fall out of my chair. "You think I would fall in love with them?" I get out in between laughs. She just shrugs and mumbles something that sounds like, "you never know."
After lunch we all head our separate ways, and I'm dreading my next class. Gym. I'm not overweight or anything, I have curves in all the right places, but I am not athletic. I can't even walk up the stairs without being out of breath. I make my way to the locker room and change into my blue shorts and gray Grandview Bluejays shirt. Once I'm changed I make my way into the gym but stop short when I see him. Mason Woods is in my gym class. We make eye contact, but I quickly look away and try to act like I didn't just get caught staring. I turn around to walk away and end up tripping over my own feet. Before I hit the ground I'm caught by two strong arms and I hear a deep voice chuckle and say, "falling for me already, Cora?" I groan in embarrassment as he pulls me to my feet and I quickly take a step back. "In your dreams," I snap and brush myself off.
Mason only laughs and slings his arm around my shoulders. "You're feisty and I like that," he says with a wide grin. I try to push his arm off, but I give up when it doesn't budge. "What can I do for you, Mason?" I ask him annoyed by his closeness. He smells like chocolate, wait, why am I smelling him? Did I hit my head? I look up at him and he smiles down at me, "I wanted to talk to you about what happened in class this morning." I sigh and nod at him, "look," I say slowly, "I didn't want you two goons fighting over my desk. I don't know why you guys have a problem with each other, but I do know that I don't want to be in the middle of it all."
He shakes his head and laughs, "well princess, it's too late for that." And with that he walks away from me. "Wait," I call to him, "what the hell does that mean?!" He turns to look at me with a smirk and winks. Who the hell does he think he is? What the hell was he talking about? It's too late for what?
I make it through the rest of the day without anymore run ins. When the final bell rings, I make my way out to the parking lot where I see my brother leaning against the Jeep. "Hey," I say as I unlock the doors. We both get in and he mumbles a "hey" and I start to pull out of the parking lot. "Anything interesting happen today Cora," I hear Jackson ask after a few moments of silence. I glance over at him and shrug, "no not really. It was pretty uneventful." Sure, I left out the part about Mason and Caden, but he doesn't really need to know about that.
I pull into the driveway and we make our way inside the house. "Mom we're home," I yell as I walk in the front door. I hear a faint voice yell back, "in the kitchen!" I head into the kitchen where my mom pulling out a batch of cookies from the oven. My mom is an amazing baker, and an even better cook. She asks me about my day and I give her the same answer I gave my brother. We talk for a few more minutes before I head upstairs to start on my homework.
An hour into my homework my phone rings and an unknown number pops up on the screen. "Hello," I say as I answer the call. "Hey princess, whatcha doing," a deep voice asks me. Why the hell is Mason Woods calling me and how did he get my number? "Mason, how did you get my number," I ask nervously. "I asked your brother for it," he replies nonchalantly. "Well, what do you want," I ask him, annoyed that my brother easily gave out my number without asking or telling me.
"There's a party Friday night after the game and I want you to come as my date." I laugh, "are you joking?" "No," he says sounding offended, "I want you to be my date!" I sigh, "what do I get out of this?" I can practically feel his smirk when he answers, "why a chance to hang out with me of course!"
"Mason I will hang up on you," I warn him. "I'm kidding geez, I just want to hang out with you. So will you please come?" I'm seriously going to regret this, "sure," I say, "but I'm bringing my friends along." I hear him laugh and say, "sure, of course your friends can come! See you Friday Cora!" He ends the call before I even have a chance to say goodbye.
I send a quick text about the party to the group chat I have with my friends, leaving out the part about Mason asking me to go. Why did I agree to this? What have I gotten myself into?~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
