This feels fucking AMAZING! At first I was terrified to be on a motorcycle, but with the wind blowing on my face and my arms wrapped tightly around Caden's strong torso, I actually feel, free. Like I have no other cares in the world.
That feeling comes to an end all too soon. He parks in front of a building with giant letters spelling out 'ARCADE' on the front.
I step off the bike first, quickly pulling off the helmet and attempting to fix my hair. He gets off the bike and turns to look at me with a small smirk, "did you enjoy the ride, babe?"
I scoff and cross my arms, "why are we here Caden? And why did you bring me? We barely know each other!" I flail my arms around as I grow frustrated and he just stands there with an amused look in his eyes.
"I just thought I'd try to get to know the girl who had the balls to stand up to me, instead of cowering away or trying to get in my pants," he explains, shrugging and shoving his hands in his pockets.
My jaw drops and my eyes go wide, well at least he's being honest. "Come on," he says and gestures towards the Arcade, "lets go have fun." And with that he turn and walks into the arcade without looking back.
I quickly compose myself and stumble after him, tripping over my feet in the process. Luckily I catch myself on the door. I step inside and my gaze instantly lands on Caden, who is standing by the coin machine.
I go to stand by him and I ask quietly, "why an arcade?" He just shrugs nonchalantly and mumbles, "I used to come here all the time. It's been awhile."
I give him a small smile when he hands me a few coins. "What do you wanna play first," he asks and nods his head towards all the games.
I look around and my eyes land on the perfect game. "SKEE-BALL," I squeal and run over, pulling Caden along with me. I hear him chuckle quietly, but I choose to ignore it.
"I love this game! It's the only one I'm actually good at!" I'm practically jumping when I feel his hand on my shoulder. "Calm down," he says, "I'm sure I'm way better."
When I look up at him he's wearing a cocky smile. Somebody needs to be knocked down a peg. "I bet I could get a better score than you," I say smugly. "Oh yeah?" He asks, quirking an eyebrow. "Loser has to buy lunch!" I agree and we both put our coins in.
"Mmm this tastes amazing," I moan as I bite into my burger. Caden just grumbles as he bites into his own burger. He's just sulking because he ended up losing, so he had to buy us lunch.
The first time he lost, he said it was just luck. But after losing four more times, it was clear that I was the real champ. And now, here we are at a cute little diner we found a few blocks away from the arcade.
"So," Caden starts, "what's your story?" I glance at him, slightly confused, "what do you mean?"
He just sighs, "tell me about yourself, babe." I just nod and start talking about, well, me. I tell him about my parents getting divorced when I was eight years old, I tell him how Jackson and I were twins, yet we were total opposites but I loved him anyway.
I tell him about how we have to split holidays between my mom and dad, and that just means we get double the presents. I tell him that my favorite color is purple (that's why my Jeep is purple), I talk about my friends and my goals and plans after high school. And to my surprise, he looks like he's actually listening!
"Sorry for rambling," I say with a blush creeping up my face. He shakes his head and smiles, almost as if saying, 'don't worry about it.'
"What about you," I ask him while popping a fry in my mouth. I frown as I watch his body stiffen and his face goes blank. "Uh I think we should actually start heading back. School lets out soon."
"Oh, okay," I say and slide out of the booth. We walk silently to the bike and he hands me the helmet as he gets on the bike first. I grip his shoulder and sling my leg over, sitting down behind him. As soon as my arms wrap around his waist, he speeds off.
I spend the whole ride wondering what had happened. I thought we were having a good time. But he just shut down. How come he gets to ask me personal questions, but I'm not allowed to do the same?
My thoughts are interrupted when we pull back into the school parking lot. He pulls in next to my Jeep, and I get off, handing his helmet back to him. He takes the helmet and before he puts it on I blurt out, "I'm sorry!"
I cringe and look away from him. "Don't apologize," I look up in surprise at his deep voice and he continues, "I don't like talking about my personal life." His face is still void of any emotion and I nod, sending him a small, but understanding smile. "I'm always here if you wanna talk to someone."
I'm about to turn and walk to my Jeep when a hand on my arm stops me. I'm about to ask him what he needs, but I'm cut off when Caden pulls me into his chest.
Oh. My. Fucking. God. Caden Maddox is hugging me. Before I have the chance to respond to the hug, he lets me go and quickly gets on his bike.
I'm left standing in the middle of the school parking lot looking like and idiot with my mouth hanging open. I shake my head and walk over to my Jeep, ready to go home and rest.
When I get home, I'm glad to see that no one else is here. I go upstairs and instantly fall into my bed.
Why can't I stop thinking about that hug? I close my eyes and remember the way the muscles in his arm flexed as they wrapped around me. He's almost a foot taller than me, and yet he had his face nuzzled in the side of my neck. He smelled sweet, almost like strawberries and something else.
I drift off to sleep with a smile on my face and dream of a blue eyed bad boy.
