Chapter 9: Woo Me

I know, I totally suck for updating so late! I'm so sorry! I've been going through a lot lately, but I'm hoping I'll have more time to write now. So I promise I'll update more often!

The outfit above is Cora's outfit for school!

"What's going on between you and Caden Maddox?"

I stare at Mason dumbfounded. How do I even answer that question when I don't even know. Are we friends? Acquaintances? More than friends?

I sigh and look away from his questioning eyes, "I honestly don't know. I wouldn't really call us friends, but we've hung out a few times. Why does it matter?"

Mason frowns slightly and shrugs, "I like you, Cora. I feel like we have a connection and I don't think it's good for you to hang out with him." Mason's face scrunches up in disgust when he mentions Caden.

My face heats up and my eyes widen in surprise. "Y-you like me?" I sputter out and flail my arms. "Why?," I ask him incredulously. Mason chuckles slightly and shakes his head, "You think too little of yourself Cora. You're smart, funny and beautiful. You're like the full package. Who wouldn't like you?"

My heart flutters as I listen to what he's saying, no one has ever said anything like that about me before. I look up at him with a shy smile.

"I like you too Mason," I start and he looks at me with a wide smile, "but I also have feelings for Caden." His smile instantly slips off his face and his replaced with a scowl.

"What do you see in him anyway?" Mason asks sounding slightly annoyed. I go to answer him but I'm interrupted by my phone ringing. I jump slightly and answer the call. "Hello? Cora- Jackson shut up! Honey, where are you? Dinner is going to be ready soon."

I chuckle slightly and tell her that I'd be on my way home soon. We say our goodbyes and I stand up, "I guess it's time for me to head home." Mason only nods and we walk silently to the door. Before I leave I turn to him and say, "You and Caden both have different qualities and you're both so amazing, so it's hard for me to understand my feelings. But I do like you Mason."

He gives me a cocky smile, "I guess I'll have to woo you then." I snort and give him a look that says "Yeah right." He pretends to be offended and puts a hand over his heart, "You don't believe me?" I just shake my head and walk away, with him following behind me.

He walks me to my car and when we get there he leans down to whisper in my ear, "Prepare to be wooed, princess." He quickly kisses my cheek and walks away, throwing me a wink over his shoulder. I'm left standing in his driveway stunned.

Once I pull myself together I jump in my Jeep and head home. All throughout dinner my mom asks about Mason. I keep my answers short, not wanting Jackson to know anything about my feelings towards his teammate.

After dinner I go upstairs and FaceTime Chloe. "So how was it?" She asks as soon as her face pops up. I give her a small smirk, "He's going to woo me." We're both silent for a minute before we burst out laughing.

"M-Mason Woods is g-going to woo you? What the h-hell does that even mean?" Chloe gets out in between her laughs. "I honestly have no idea," I say laughing, "but I'm kind of excited to find out." Chloe and I talk for a few more minutes before her parents yell at her to get off of her phone.

As I get ready for bed, I get a text from Mason, "I'm picking you up for school tomorrow. Be ready by 7 ;)." I smile and lay down, thinking about how great everything has been going. Little did I know shit was about to blow up.

The next morning I'm pulled out of sleep by my alarm going off. I jump out of bed and take a quick shower, making sure to shave my legs. It was going to be pretty warm today, so I decide on a black crop top, ripped blue shorts, black and white converse and I wrap a plaid shirt around my waist.

I apply a small amount of makeup to my face and decide to straighten my hair. Once I'm happy with my appearance I glance at the clock, noticing I only have about five minutes until Mason would be here I decide to grab an apple for breakfast. I write my brother a note saying I wouldn't be driving today, and I leave my keys on the table.

I open the door just as Mason raises his hand to knock. He gives me a shy smile and shoves his hands in his pockets, "Good morning, princess." I roll my eyes at his nickname and mumble a good morning. We walk to his car and he opens the door for me. "Oh what a gentleman," I say jokingly. He gives me a goofy smile and says, "Duh, I told you I was gonna woo you!"

Before we go to school, Mason drives us to Starbucks. When we pull up to the speaker he orders himself a Venti Peppermint Mocha and looks at me, "Whatcha want?" "Hmm, I'll have a Venti Caramel Frappuccino!" I say and give him a thankful smile. Once we have our coffees we head off to school.

"You wooing is going well so far," I say with a small smile. He laughs and looks over at me, "This is just the beginning, princess." I shake my head and think to myself, "what else is he gonna do?"

When we get to the school, Mason gets out to open my door and takes my hand, helping me out of the car. Everyone is looking at us. I absolutely hate being the center of attention. I look at Mason nervously and mumble, "Thanks for the ride," before speed walking off towards my friends.

When I glance back at him, I notice he's not there anymore. Instead I see him talking to Bethany, I frown slightly, why the hell is he talking to her, when he was just telling me he liked me?

I peel my eyes away when I hear someone clear their throat. Bryce and Derrick look at me with wide eyes, expecting an explanation, while Chloe just gives me a sad smile. "Guys," I sigh slightly, "Please don't ask me about this right now." With that I start walking towards my locker, only to be stopped by a hand on my arm. "Who do you think you are?"

I turn and glare at Bethany, "Excuse me?" She gives me a cold glare and steps up so we're face to face, "Stay the fuck away from Mason. He's mine." I snort and back away from her, "He's all yours."

I storm off towards my locker and throw my stuff inside once I get to it. I don't even notice someone coming up beside me until I hear a deep voice ask me in annoyance, "So, are you and Woods dating now?"

I look over at Caden and go to answer until I'm interrupted by another deep voice, "What's it to you Maddox?" Mason walks up to us and stands so I'm between him and Caden.

"Guys, please don't start this right now," I say, but they both ignore me and continue glaring at each other. I sigh in annoyance and snap, "I'm not in the mood for your rivalry shit right now, so both of you just grow the fuck up," before slamming my locker shut and striding off towards my class.

I ignore both of their calls and walk into my classroom. I quickly make my way to my desk and lay my head down. I don't even bother looking up when I hear them take their seats.

I don't know why I let Mason and Bethany bother me so much. But when I saw how close they were, I felt like I was going to be sick. I mean, who tells a girl they like her and then goes off to a girl he used to date, just seconds after being with the first girl?I start to get angry and decide I should get revenge.

I sit up and turn towards Caden, completely ignoring Mason. "Hey Caden," I say with a wide smile, "Wanna hang out later?"
