Joey

It's been five or so weeks since the accident that killed my father and put my mother into a coma. I've been messed up mentally, I won't lie. It hurts to know that I won't ever hear my father's voice anymore. But I'll survive. I have to, for me, for Trinity, and for my mother.
—————

Trinity and I are in the cafeteria eating when a nurse comes by and lets us know that my mother has woken up. I swear the room got a ton brighter when the nurse spoke.

"You can't see her right away though, because we need to make sure she is stable, alright? I'll make sure to let you know first thing when you can see her." The nurse explains to us, and I nod quickly.

When she leaves, I move over to Trinity and squeeze her into a hug so tight, she grunted quietly.

"Urrf, this is some amazing news Joey." She says happily and hugs me back.

I couldn't sit still for the next few hours because I wanted to see my mother so bad. I say with Trinity in the commons, watching videos with her to pass the time until I could see my mom.

Eventually, the same nurse from before comes up to us and tells us that we can see her. I jump up and practically drag Trinity along with me, heading quickly towards my mother's room.

When I open the door, my mother is propped up by the bed, surrounded by her brother and his wife. I stop, surprised to see them there, but it makes sense that they are of course.

"Uncle Jay? Aunt Jess?" I say quietly, and they turn towards me, smiling.

"Hey Joseph! It's good to see you, though I wish it was for different circumstances..." Uncle Jay says sheepishly, and I nod slightly.

I walk over and give both of them a hug, then go to my mother's side. "Hey mom..." I say quietly, holding her hand between both of my own.

"Hey love..." She says weakly, and I bite my lip hard. I can feel my eyes watering up a bit as we kind of just look at each other, knowing nothing's gonna be the same.

"I'm glad you're gonna be okay mom." I finally say, wiping my eyes with my sleeve. She squeezes my hand for reassurance, something she does a lot when I'm nervous or something of the like.

We all have our reunion and it's a good thing for a while, even with the dark and looming thought of my father. I miss him so much already....

After talking with my mother for a while, we leave the room to let her rest, because she definitely needs it.

My aunt, uncle, Trinity, and I all go back to the commons to keep each other company. "So Joseph, who's your lady friend?" My uncle teases, flashing his grin at me.

I blush brightly and unsuccessfully hide my face, so I probably look really stupid in trying that. "T-Trinity is my mate..." I stammer out, punching myself mentally.

"Oooh!! That's great news Joseph! My name is Jesse, but you can call me Jess." My aunt squeals at me, then turns to Trinity and offers her hand.

Trinity chuckles softly and shakes my aunt's hand, then my uncles. "Yeah. Joey and I have been getting along great." She says with a sweet smile.

I wish I was like her, able to make conversation easily. She and my relatives have a conversation while I just drift through my thoughts, floating around in nothingness.

I wish I could of at least told my father that I loved him...

Trinity and I went home finally, while my uncle and aunt stayed at the hospital to keep an eye on my mother. I didn't want to, but both Trinity and my uncle, both alphas, decided otherwise.

When Trinity and I got home, I took my shoes off and practically just collapsed on her bed. It was so soft and cushiony and it smelled just like her.

I was asleep pretty much instantly.
—————

I must have slept for a long time, because my mother woke up on a Tuesday — it's now Thursday. I sit up and rub the sleep from my eyes, stretching my sleep ridden joints.

I slowly climb out of bed and move towards the kitchen to get some water. As I'm filling the cup, Trinity rounds the corner and comes to me.

"Hey, you're finally awake. How are you feeling?" She asks, returning a hug from me.

"I'm doing... better I guess. Not tired anymore." I say back, still waking up slowly. She simply just nods.

"We should go back to the hospital. The doctors have cleared your mother to be able to leave." Trinity says, looking down at me.

My eyes lift and I nod quickly, letting go of Trinity. "I'm gonna go take a shower, then I'll be ready!" I say and run off back to her room, getting a new pair of clothes, and going into the bathroom. I undress and climb into the shower, letting the hot water run over me.
—————

At the hospital, my mother is in a wheelchair in the commons, along with my aunt and uncle. I walk quickly over to her, a big smile probably on my face.

"Good morning mom." I say crouching down and giving her a light hug. I want to hug her tighter, but I also don't wanna hurt her, so I restrain myself a bit.

"So Joseph. We were just about to leave, but before we do, I need to tell you something." My uncle turns to me, putting a hand on my shoulder.

"We want to take your mother with us back to where we live. So we can look after her and help her recover, stuff like that." He starts to explain, and I nod. I'm gonna miss her, but at least she'll be in good hands. I most likely can't do the stuff she does to care for me.

"But. That means you have to come with us." He adds, and my heart drops. I don't wanna leave Trinity, but at the same time, I don't wanna leave my mother.

"C-Can I have a minute to think?" I mumble, walking to the side, pulling Trinity with me.

I sigh and look at her, and she speaks before I do. "Joey, it's okay. I'll be alright. You should go with your mother, she's more important than I am right now."

I shake my head and frown. "No... I wanna go with my mother, but I can't just leave you either... what am I supposed to do..?" I sniffle, putting my head in my hands.

I feel Trinity's arms around me, and I lean into her, tears slowly running from my eyes. I'm torn, I can't decide something like this.
—————

After a few minutes of deliberation, I've come to a decision that I didn't think would ever come. I rerun back to my mother and my uncle, looking up at him.

"I... I can't go with you..." I say, and my uncle frowns. "I just found my mate, and our bond is strong enough that we'll feel the pull for each other more and more until it becomes unbearable... so I want to stay here, and I can live with Trinity for the time being." I say, mostly to my mother, but as well as my uncle.

"Go along, Joseph. Don't worry about me okay? You know I'm not one to quit." My mother says, squeezing my hand.

I laugh slightly, even though my eyes are watering a bit. I nod and give her a hug, looking up at my uncle afterwards. "Thank you uncle Jay..."
—————

After that, we have one last lunch together for a while at least, then we all say our goodbyes. I give my mother another hug, and she kisses my cheek.

"Be a good boy Joseph. Remember your manners and make sure to help around at the house, okay?" My mother says, and I chuckle and give her a teary nod.

"By mom... By uncle Jay and aunt Jess." I say to them, then wait for Trinity to say goodbye as well.

They finally get into their car, and Trinity and I do the same. "We should go to my house, so I can pack for a longer stay." I say, leaning against the door.

"That's the plan." Trinity says, pulling away from the hospital.
