I'm Eva Howard, I'm 16 and I'm from Liverpool. I quite like living here, although it's a big place, I know a lot of people and there's a nice sense of community. However, only one person in the world matters to me; my best friend in the world, Alice Hall.

We've always been inseparable for as long as I can remember, everything I do, she does with me. Any secret I've ever had she knows about, and throughout my life we've only fallen out once because she could whistle and I couldn't and I got frustrated, but we were 6 and she did keep rubbing salt into the wound and whistling at any given opportunity.

Anyway, that's all behind us now, it was a decade ago. Now, I'm in my last year of senior school and so is Alice (even though I'm four months older than her). It's October, so it's still the beginning of the school year, and it's currently Sunday evening.

Alice is sleeping round my house, even though it's a school night, I managed to convince my mum to let her stay (much to my younger brother, Billy's, disgust).

'So, Eva' Alice is laying on my bed on her stomach reading a magazine, but she shuts it and rests her chin on her hands to talk to me.

I'm taking off my makeup in the mirror of my dresser and look at her in the reflection.

'Yes, Alice'

'Fancy anyone?'

I scrunch up my nose, thinking, and swing round to face her,

'Not really, Paul's very good looking though'

She raises her eyebrows,

'McCartney?'

I raise an eyebrow,

'Yeah?'

She tuts and shakes her head, looking back to her magazine,

'Oh, Eva, how typical'

I laugh,

'What?'

'Everyone fancies Paul!'

'So do you!'

'No'

'Ah Ha! So you do like him!'

'I just said the exact opposite!'

We continue bickering for a few minutes about boys or whatever. I wish I could say that I've never been all that interested in boys, but we all know that's not true.

In the past year I've made sure to steer clear of having any boyfriends, due to me gaining a reputation of being, well, a slut. Even though I'm still a virgin. This is due to me having quite a lot of boyfriends from year 7 until the end of year 10. But now is year 11 so no boyfriends for me.

'I've told you, Alice. I'm done with boys!'

She wags her finger at me,

'You haven't had Paul yet! You've still got one more school year!'

'Shut up'

She laughs, and hugs my neck from behind,

'You love me really'

I roll my eyes at her and we both laugh.

'Seriously though, I promise that I will not have any boyfriends this year'

'Pinky promise?'

She holds out her pinky and I interlock mine with hers,

'Pinky promise'

A few hours later and my mum shouts at us because it's 1 am and we have to be awake in 6 hours. We have to share my double bed but of course neither of us mind.
