December 23rd

Change wasn’t something that Eri was familiar with. The poor girl had been underneath Overhaul’s wing for as long as she had known. It was the same routine everyday. She had her very own room, some toy dolls, and everything she might ask for if she had known what a normal life was. Instead, she’d have to face waking up everyday to have her arms slashed, and disassembled by Overhaul’s hand. She was only seven years old, but she had died countless times.

She didn’t know what love felt like. Once she did, though, she knew that her life would never be the same.

When Deku had held her the way that he did when she went running for her life, hanging on to a molecule of hope, she understood.

Mirio had lost his quirk, just to keep her out of harm’s way. It was something that she couldn’t forgive herself for, no matter how positive his attitude was.

After all, she was cursed.

Up until she knew how many people loved her.

The scars caused by Overhaul were sealed, and all that was left were faint marks.

She knew how to smile. At this point, she never thought about it. It was an unconscious thing. Mirio had told her that she smiled most when she was given apples. Eri had learned that apples were one of her favorite things on the planet. Especially candy and caramel ones.

Today, she found out that she finally was going to a home, rather than residing at U.A., or with Mr. Aizawa. She wasn’t against the idea, but she was scared. What if she was kicked out because of her cursed quirk? It was easy to control it at this point, but what if it was impossible to stop it again?

Mirio promised Eri that she’d be safe, and that she was going to be staying with Deku from now on.

So, now she was thrilled. Deku was her hero, and she knew that she’d be safe as long as she was with him. Even though she had used her quirk on him at one point, he stayed smiling, and fought Overhaul all at the same time.

It was snowy out, so Mirio chose to deck as many coats and hats on Eri as much as possible. Aizawa bought them just in case Eri wanted to go outside and explore. He had known she had been trapped inside for a good portion of her life, and that children normally loved to play in the snow. He wanted to give her that opportunity.

Eri had a jacket on, along with a puffy lavender coat. It was a little big for her size, as it extended past her knees, but she still loved it all the same. She had pink kitten boots, along with matching mittens. Mirio fitted an orange pom-pom hat over her head, and looped a pink silvery scarf loosely around her neck. He finally got up. “All done! You’re good to go!”

Eri adored cats. Aizawa showed her one of his own, and she found a new cuddle-buddy. She was especially excited over her boots. She wouldn’t stop staring at them. They had mini cat ears, and whiskers. She never had worn winter equipment before, so she waddled awkwardly to the door. “Is Deku going to be there?”

“I think he’s out of the hospital by now, so I should think so.” Mirio beamed, and opened the door for Eri.

Cold wind burst into the room, but Eri hardly felt it. She ran outside, grinning at the sheet of snow awaiting to be stepped on. She felt sad for the poor cats on her boots for getting them so cold, but this was too hard to resist.
