Routine

Turned out, Isis hadn't done much for me except provide me with money and identification.

Damien used the black card Isis he given me in the bag to buy me a bed, clothes, everything I would need to live with them peacefully.

The first night, Damien gave up his bed for me and slept on one of the many armchairs in the main room. Elsie had begged Damien to let me sleep with her in her room but he wouldn't allow it.

We soon fell into a routine, Damien would make breakfast for us all before he left for work. Elsie and I would then go and do our various lessons, on elemental powers and their various uses, and Elsie would teach me new things also. Everyday I would try multiple new foods, see me things and have new experiences. It had been a very long time since I'd been in the sun, and even longer since I'd been really truly free. I relished in the feeling that Elsie and I could go and do what we want.

Damien would come back home in the afternoons, and quiz Elsie on her day and what she had learnt. He still refused to take part in any lessons and wouldn't talk about powers in general apart from his daily quizzing of Elsie.

Elsie was doing well. She had mastered her elements, apart from wind and fire, and understood her history. Truthfully, there wasn't much I had or could teach her, except to tell her to practice. But that's had become risky.

We couldn't train indoors for obvious reasons. But outdoors was difficult as well. It was near impossible to find a spot where we wouldn't be seen, and even then, there was always someone who would wander to our spot, drawn by a sixth sense that something may be amiss.

In the end I had to use my powers to perform some tricky stealth moves. I created a wind barrier no one could penetrate, and bent the light away from us so people couldn't see properly and would avert their gaze. It was difficult to maintain both and train Elsie at the same time, but I convinced myself it was my training to help restore the world and protect Elsie.

I wondered whether Damien and Elsie knew that if there wasn't change and soon, the gods would take matters into their own hands and 'cleanse' the world. Maybe Damien knew and that was why he despised her so.

Elsie smacked me with a blast of wind as I was distracted by my thoughts.

"Pay attention! I just did a perfect miniature whirlwind and you missed it!" Elsie scowled.

"Sorry ,sorry, I was just thinking.."

"About what?" Elsie's face screwed up in concentration as she tried to summon wind to create another whirlwind.

"Food"

Elsie burst into laughter and lost concentration, letting the wind go and blow snow off the trees.

"You're always hungry! I'm surprised you're not fat!"

"Back in ancient Egypt, being fat was a sign of wealth", I said offended, patting my midriff.

Elsie laughed again.

She looked up at the sky, and I dropped the wind shield. Elsie sighed, the sky was darkening with clouds signalling we should begin our journey home.

"Come on, let's get home before we get a cold and Damien kills you for keeping me out late", Elsie sighed.

"I don't get sick remember? And I've taught you how to avoid being cold, just focus your inner fire and you'll warm right up"

I fidgeted with my gloves. Damien had insisted I wear them. I thought they were pointless as I didn't get cold anyway,  and hindered use of my hands.

Elsie noticed. "He cares is all. He wants to make sure you're warm and safe."

I frowned, "I can take care of myself."

Elsie snorted, and I shot her a glare. She smiled back.

We were cutting across the green, when I noticed a hooded stranger approaching us. I grabbed Elsie and pulled her behind me. "Who are you? What do you want?"

"Well, well, seems you haven't learnt any respect after these years after all. Maybe I should lock you back down there for another 100 years with your young mortal friend there, hmm?"

That voice made my skin crawl. I knew that voice. I froze, as Set pulled down his hood and licked his maw, as he grinned.
