Set

"What do you want Set?" I growled.

I was not fearful as I should've been. I was full of rage. I looked down to seethe snow melting around my feet. Elsie gripped my arm tighter, and whispered something I couldn't catch.

"Oh, I'm just in the neighbourhood and thought I'd check in on my favourite immortal to torture. Nadia's soul is doing well, in the pits of my stomach you know. Such a deliciously pure soul."

I growled. Flames now devouring my gloves that Damien had given me.

"You know I've often thought of returning her soul to her body, or a body, just to devour her all over again." Set grinned his foul smile and I lost my grip on my temper.

I launched myself at him. He wasn't prepared and I had gotten a few blows in when he summoned a dead wind to knock me off him.

I was blinded by rage and could sense the black power stirring deep within me. I decided I no longer cared about the consequences of using that power on a god, and I let it loose upon Set.

He was blasted metres away in the snow and I grinned in victory.

Set rose and attempted to attack me with his powers. To find he couldn't.

"What have you done?" He gasped in horror.

"I've taken your powers, temporarily or permanently we shall see. You're a disgusting being and need to be taught I'm not one to be messed with. Next time you come to goad me or torture me, I'll take more than your powers away." I turned back to Elsie to see Damien running toward us wide-eyed.

"WhT have you done?" He looked me up and down, "are you ok?"

It was then I realised I was crying.

"I just taught Set a lesson".

He looked at Set behind me, powerless and bleeding in the snow. He gasped at me.

"Can we go home?" I asked, " I don't want to be near him any longer than I have to."

Damien closed his mouth, clearly concerned. "Of course".

We walked back to the apartment in silence. Set had purposely sought me out and I had broken one of the rules given when I was made immortal. I took a god's power away.

I sighed, and Damien looked over at me. Elsie squeezed my hand in comfort.

I realised Elsie was right, Damien did care. Despite all his talk of keeping his distance, he hadn't. We often talked when Elsie went to bed, about the state of the world and being an adult. So long as we didn't address powers, he was an open book.

I looked over at him, to find him looking at me, like I was a puzzle to decider. I raised an eyebrow at him and he looked away.

It had been along time since someone had cared about my well being. I wondered what it would be like to depend upon someone like I once depended on and cared for Nadia.
