I had to face the consequences. I had disobeyed, and broken the one law given to Nadia and I, by the gods. We had been given the power to take gods powers away when they were misusing them. On the condition, of course, that we wouldn't take the gods powers without the consensus from Isis and Osiris or Horus.
I didn't have permission, I had blatant,y misused my power in a display of dominance over Set. Sure, it was to protect Elsie and myself, but that may not be a reasonable excuse for Isis and the others.
We were back at the apartment now and I couldn't stop pacing. Elsie was explaining to Damien what had happened, and I caught that she had called him in fear of a looming god attacking and threatening us.
I was relieved, Elsie and Damien were safe. But I should leave now, spare them the horror of my punishment.
I made my mind up. I would leave. I walked to my room and stated shoving my things into a bag. I heard a noise at the door to my room and looked up. Damien was watching me from the doorway, Elsie peering from behind him.
"What are you doing?"
"Leaving, I don't want you both to see what the gods will do to me for disobeying them. I don't want to submit you to that horror." I looked down at my bag.
"So you're going to leave us?"
I looked up at Damien. His face was expressionless, but I could feel the storm brewing underneath.
"I don't want to, but I have no choice."
"You do have a choice and you're choosing wrong!" He was staring at me intently now.
"I thought you didn't want anything to do with me?" I muttered.
He blinked, startled at my words and took a step back into Elsie. He looked at her then back at me.
" well, actually, I don't really care if you go, but it would hurt Elsie if you did."
"Ah," I said, " I didn't realise 'us' meant just Elsie."
There was silence. Damien gasped at me, stunned I had called him out on his lie so swiftly.
I swung my bag over my shoulder and stepped past Damien into the main room, only to stop dead in horror. There stood Isis, staring at me with eyebrows raised. In front of her stood Elsie, wide eyed and unable to talk with Isis' hands wrapped around her mouth.
"Well, well, where do you think you're going?" Isis tilted her head assessing me.
"I was leaving, you can punish or curse me all you want, but don't subject Nadia's kin to what I must endure."
Isis smiled at me predatorily.
"What makes you think you will be punished? Why would you be punished exactly?"
I gasped at Isis disbelievingly and she smiled wider in response.
" I I'd think it would be wise if you left, thought" she said, releasing Elsie. "All of you," she added.
I felt Damien come up beside me.
"We can't just leave, our lives are here", he growled.
Isis frowned at him, " If you wish to live, you will leave."
"Who is threatening them?" I stepped closer and Elsie stepped to my side to clasp my hand. I looked down at her and saw fear shine within her eyes.
"You didn't just anger Set today, you angered all his followers, gods and mortals alike. They will come for you."
"But Elsie and I weren't involved," Damien fumed.
"Actually, Set came out today to torture Khafte by doing Elsie harm, as he once did with Nadia. History repeating itself. Khafte did what she did to save Elsie, so Set and his followers will come after al, of you. To hurt Khafte more." Isis turned to me, " you should have taken his powers away permanently instead of showing him mercy".
Elsie gasped and Damien whirled to look at me.
" I didn't have permission to do that", I replied forcefully, " he doesn't know anyway, I bluffed and said he may never get his powers back."
" we would have looked the other way in this case," Isis muttered, " the state of the world comes first and that relies on Elsie and yourself. Besides Set is not one for our cause, he is all for destruction."
Isis looked out the apartment window, " I have arranged for you to leave at midnight. I expect you all to be packed and ready by then. Someone will come to pick you up. They will have Horus' mark."
With that she left, leaving us all feeling hopeless and shattered.
