"Surrender. You're surrounded and can't possibly defeat us. Men, blessed and gifted by Set himself."
Pompous young fool, I thought. I did a quick count, twenty-two men. I looked behind at Elsie, who I'd thrust behind me when I had realised the danger. She looked determinedly at me and gave a small nod. I looked back up, and noticed Damien emerge from the restrooms and give quick evaluation of the situation. He looked at me in panic, but I was calm and subtly motioned for him to stay where he was quietly.
"so, you're all here to do Set's dirty work?"
One of the men snarled at me, " Do not talk about our Lord Set like that. He is the greatest god to have ever roam this earth. We have come of our own volition to avenge him."
Another man stepped forward predatorily. I assumed he was the leader, from the demeanour and the way the other men looked to him. He laughed, "We will bring you to Set and I shall sit at his right hand. He will grant me immortality."
I fought the urge to roll my eyes. "That's only if you bring us to Set, and if he ever regains his powers", I said confidently, "What makes you so sure that will happen?"
The men guffawed.
"Well, theres only two of you, both girls, and theres twenty-two of us men".
"And?" I replied, raising an eyebrow. A hint of a smile played around my mouth. I knew how this was going to play out, how it would end. I exalted in it.
The sight of my smile must've unnerved the leader. "Enough of this nonsense! Grab them!"
I snorted as the men started towards us, not heeding the warning my smile truly was.
I whirled the short staff gifted to me by Sekhmet, and two medium length blades emerged from the ends. I embedded them in two torsos within seconds with ease.
Sekhmet the warrior goddess, had truly gifted me with something wonderful. She had had the forethought to gift me with a weapon, that had the knowledge and wisdom of the goddess herself in it. All knowledge of battles, fights, wars and strategy were mine with one touch. One touch was all it took for me to become a master warrior, able to protect friends and family with ease and no forethought.
I spun and the blades slit throats, hands, legs, anything they could reach to stop the men from touching Elsie. I saw from the corner of my eye, Elsie summoning earth and fire to her aid. One man was already sunk to his waist in the tarmac. Another to his neck. She was currently drowning another with a sphere of water on his head. Damien had rushed forward and unhinged the gas pumps. He flicked his fingers, and flames leapt up at the feet of several men at once who began screaming immediately. I felt the hairs upon my neck stand up and i pushed Elsie away and dive rolled. There was an ear splitting crack, and, where I'd been standing moments before, lightning struck. I looked over and saw the leader of the men begin to concentrate to summon another bolt.
He was strong, but not strong enough. He forgot who I was. I could summon lightning too. Without much concentration or thought. One minute he was there, the next, a smoking pile of rags. I turned my attention to the rest, while they were stunned with the demise of their leader. I molded the earth between their legs and held them fast.
"Now, you're going to tell me exactly how many are you, and what you're planning to do if you actually manage to capture us".
"Never", one man said, and spat at my feet. I sighed and turned to look at Elsie.
"What would you have me do? Spare them? Or kill them?"
Elsie frowned in thought, then smiled an evil smile that sent shivers down my spine.
"Leave them as offering to Sekhmet", she said, " After all it is thanks to the warrior goddess we defeated these idiots with such ease."
I looked at Damien, who had walked over to us, the driver draped over his shoulder.
"As long as they suffer I'm happy," he growled, and walked back towards the SUV.
I smiled and left the men buried in the tarmac for Sekhmet to do with as she pleased. Thank the goddess, I thought.
Damien had been driving for mere minutes before we started hearing their screams in the distance.
