The Woods

Lucille was wondering through the woods at the edge of town. Her friends had dared her to walk them at midnight on the night of the full moon. This wouldn't seem like a big deal if there wasn't a rumor of the woods being cursed.

But silly Lucille didn't believe in curses, not with being raised in the local baptist church. Although she did start to wonder if there was any truth behind the rumors now that she was in the woods.

"Anyone who wonders the woods at night would start to wonder if they were cursed!" She said out loud to herself. Just then she heard a scuffling coming from the underbrush. "God, that noise was probably a racoon..."

She shook off the feeling of dread and checked her watch. It had only been 15 minutes, her dare was for an hour. "I can do this, no such thing as curses!" She heard some more scuffling come from in front of her, only this time it sounded like it belonged to something bigger. She took a small step back, only to trip on a root sticking up. As she hit the ground a deer came out of no where. She signed a breath of relief.

"You're just a deer aren't you, see Lucille nothing to be scared of..." She murmured. The deer stopped to look at her, they both watched another for a few moments before the deer turned it's head to face another direction, it's ears perked, as if listening for something.

All of the sudden it shot as fast as it's legs could cary it in the oposite direction. She didn't know why but her gut told her to run, she she quickly got up ans shot in the same direction as the deer, away from whatever had spooked the poor thing.

As she ran she heard something scampering along after her. She fought back tears, thinking it could be anything chasing her, another deer, a bunny, or even a racoon! But the silence coming from the rest of the wood told her otherwise.

She bobbed and weaved away from branches and trees the best she could, noting that it was becoming harder to see the deeper into the woods she got. But with the sound of running behind her she knew she couldn't stop. The further in she got, the harder the time of getting out she will have.

She didn't know how long she had been running but she knew she would have to stop soon, due to her breathing becoming labored. She looked for anything she could hide behind or under. Before long she found a fallen tree branch with some of its roots upturned, just big enough for her to crawl under. She dove there as fast as she could. Not realizing how fatigued she had become.

She curled up into the smallest ball she could manage and held her breath. She heard whatever was chasing her catch up, she threw her hands over her mouth as she saw very human legs run by.

She suddenly got very mad, thinking her friends were playing tricks on her. "How dare they!" She exclaimed. She started to crawl out, oh boy were they going to get a piece of her mind.

Only before she crawled she was snatched out by the figure that ran by, which only to have seemed to appeared infront of her. She let out a scream to see it wasn't any of her friends, or anything human.

"Little girl, don't you know these woods are full of monsters?" The figure asked in a twisted sing sing voice. "You wouldn't want to be caught by the wolves, demons, or worse.... Me!" Its mouth soon became nothing but jagged teeth and its jaw unhinged. It decended down towards her.

The last thing Lucille could think of was the ending of the prayer her mother taught her when she was little. I pray my soul for the lord to keep. As the creature bit off her head she wanted to scoff, for her Pastor had it wrong, there was no heaven.

As the creature was enjoying it's meal Lucille's watch started to beep that it was 1am.
