CHAPTER SIXTEEN
(RECAP)
I walk slowly toward where Mary is, and suddenly hear a baby crying. 'Did she have the babies?' Nah, she couldn't have, could she? I walk faster, and then suddenly, I see her. She's laying there, holding something, but what is it?
"Baby," I say, "what's going on? What's the big surprise?"
She kisses me, smiles and reveals what she is holding on to. "It's twins, and guess what," she says, "it's one of each, one boy and one girl, two heart beats beating inside of me."
"One boy and one girl," I repeat, "that's perfect sweetie. I'm so super excited."
"Want to know something else?" she asks.
"What's that?"
"The babies are...."
DICK's POV
"The babies are what?" I ask.
"The babies are already, almost big enough for me to have." Mary says. The smile on her face makes me smile. I know she's excited and I know we're both ready to see the babies, but I wonder if there's something else she's wanting to tell me? The concerned tone of her voice makes me think there's something more. I kiss hand cheek and wait for her to continue. "The doctor says I have about a month left, and that he's really surprised that we just found out we are pregnant." She laughs.
"Does he have any concerns about that babies," I ask curiously, "like did he say anything about what they looked like?"
"Nope," Mary says giggling, "the babies are perfectly fine, want to see what they look like?"
"Really," I say excitedly, "I can see what the babies look like!"
""Yep, just grab that picture and look." Mary said, pointing to a place on the table beside her bed. "They did an ultrasound, and said the babies are perfectly fine. He also said that they are forming perfectly and if for some reason I'd have them today, they'd be okay."
"That's great baby," I say happily, "I can't wait until they're here, and we can all be one big happy family."
"Look at the picture silly!" Mary laughs.
I do as she says, and boy am I surprised at what I see. The picture is black and white, it has two images on it. There's an arrow pointing out, a boy and a girl, because it's pointing between their legs. I laugh out loud, because I think it's cute, knowing what we're having and all. I glance closer at the picture and see their faces. Their beautiful, gorgeous faces! They're so cute already! I can't wait to hold them in my arms. Awe. I take a quick glance up at Mary, she's leaned back on the pillow, rubbing her belly, and she looks so darn cute. I look back and the picture and notice, the little girl looks just like me, and the boy like Mary. Hmm, I wonder what that means, beside them being the two most adorable kids in the world.
"Sweetie," I say more of a question, "Have you noticed that each kids looks like one of us?"
"Yes, and guess what," she says laughing, "the baby girl, looks just like you, so you know what that means?"
"What?" I ask curiously.
"She's the one you could feel," Mary squealed, "meaning she's the vampire Dick, our baby girl is a vampire, just like you!"
"She's a vampire," I say, taking it all in, "she's a vampire like me! What about our little man? What is he? Is he a merman, a vampire, or... is he both?"
"I don't know," she grins, "but what I do know, is that we are going to have some really special babies. With her being a vampire, I'm hoping he's a merman, but on a serious not, I don't care what they are, as long as they are both healthy and happy."
