"Nina, get up for God's sake! You can't be late today."

Nina was already awake. She hadn't actually slept much that night. Every time she closed her eyes she thought about what had happened. And today was the start of the punishment for that.

Truth be told, Nina was actually a really kind, intelligent and considerate young girl. She hadn't intended to be court ordered into 200 hours of community service when she first moved here. She'd intended on having a fresh start; Making new friends, finding new hobbies - that sort of thing.

She slumped out of bed, her dark curly hair bouncing just above her shoulders as she sighed and dragged herself to the bathroom to wash up and change. Orange wasn't her favourite colour, but she assumed the service outfit she had to wear today could have been much worse. Her mum had picked it up from the Community Centre to wash it earlier in the week and she was thankful she had done. 'At least it's not bright yellow,' she thought to herself as she grabbed her essentials and made her way out the door without a single word spoken to her mum.

The sun was shining warmly on the back of her neck as Nina strolled towards the Community Centre. It seemed a shame to be spending what was so far a nice looking day 'giving back to the community' she very much so dispised. Upon arrival, she noticed another six orange draped offenders stood in a line outside. Cursing herself for being late and feeling awkward, she crept up slowly.

"You're late." His voice was deep and spiteful, he already loathed all of the young people in front of him and Nina could tell, "What do you have to say for yourself?"

He was demanding. Nina didn't like demanding, or being told what to do for that matter. "Well I was gonna apologise in my own time but since you asked, I was busy not giving a fuck, to be honest."

There was laughter, a chuckling that Nina hadn't expected but very much so appreciated. Nina enjoyed to live by a mantra of 'Do no harm, but take no shit' and she intended to keep it that way, even if it was her probation worker who was giving the shit.

He sighed aggressively and told her to stand in line after giving her a glare, continuing with the conversation she had briefly missed.

"There are people who think you're scum, you have an opportunity to show them they're wrong."

She took this opportunity to eye up her fellow offenders she would be spending the next couple of weeks painfully working away with. Next to her stood a small young man, his stance was awkward, his eyes nervously flicking around and arms tight against his sides. His hair was slick against his head and jaw sharp as though he was clenching his teeth together. Nina thought that he seemed very out of place against the rest of them.

He stood next to a smaller very attractive girl. Nina found herself jealous of how good she could make a community payback jumpsuit look by just popping the collar and adding a belt. She was talking on her phone rudely and Nina sensed an immediate rude vibe off of her. She didn't mean to be judgy, but this girl seemed like a narcissist. She was beautiful and she knew it.

Another girl stood next to her. She was slightly chubbier than the previous girl, her hair slick back tight into a ponytail, large hooped earrings and had dark eye makeup that made her eyes bulge. She seemed a bit more aggressive and Nina felt it hard not to be intimidated. She'd been laughed at for her accent, but Nina didn't find it all that bad and was surprised no-one had commented on her Northern accent because of this.

A tall dark skinned boy stood at the end of the line, half-hazardly leaning against the black railings behind him, he had half of his jumpsuit down by his waist exposing a grey tank top that hung to his body. He had a wonderfully toned physique and looked like he took care of himself well. Nina recognised him from the papers as Curtis, a young athlete.
