Chapter 2

"Today, we are making two new apprentices." Heartstar said, his voice coming down to all the cats under the high-lege. "Rosekit, come forward." Rosekit did as he was told. "Graytail." The Clan leader said. " You are are strong, brave cat. Please pass on all I taught you to Rosepaw."

The young warrior Graytail padded forward. Rosepaw and Graytail touched noses, and took their places in the crowd of cats. "Patchkit, step forward." Heartstar meowed. Patchkit did. "Branchfall." Heartstar purred. "Lionfire trained you well, and I hope you can pass on all he taught you to Patchpaw." Branchfall and Patchpaw touched noses.

"Rosepaw! Patchpaw! Rosepaw! Patchpaw!" The Clan cried in unison. Rosepaw rushed over to his sister. "I can't believe we are apprentices!" He said. "I know!" She purred. "We can go to Gatherings together!"

Somecat brushed Rosepaw on his shoulder. Rosepaw turned to see Alderpaw. The older Apprentice smiled at him. "I'll be happy to fight alongside you Rosepaw." He meowed. "You...You too." Rosepaw stuttered. "Come on." Alderpaw said. "I'll help you make nests in the Apprentice den. It's gonna be packed now. I don't think Amberpaw, Whitepaw, and Petalpaw will be too happy." Alderpaw grunted at the mention of his older sisters. Rosepaw and Patchpaw grinned. This was going to be the best twelve moons of their lives.

"Rosepaw. Hey! Rosepaw."

Rosepaw grunted and opened his eyes. Alderpaw's sister, Petalpaw leaned over him. "Graytail wants you." She said. "You're going to see the territory."

Rosepaw got up. "Ok. Thanks Petalpaw." He said. "Mmhm." She said, licking her fawn colored paw.

Rosepaw trotted out of the apprentices' den. Graytail, Patchpaw, and Branchfall where waiting for him. "There you are sleepy furball!" Patchpaw teased. Graytail smilled. "Let's go see our territory."

"This is the Greenleaf Twolegplace." Graytail explained. "It is to be avoided in Greenleaf because of Twolegs, but other times, it can be a good source of prey."

Rosepaw nodded. He was paying close attention. They walked towards a long black stone on the ground. "What's that awful stench?" Rosepaw asked, recoiling. "Well-" Graytail meowed. "It's either ShadowClan, whose territory is just beyond here, or it's the Thunderpath. The Thunderpath is the long black stone that you see here."

Rosepaw nodded slowly. Graytail continued. "Monsters run on the Thunderpath, but they rarely ever leave it. That makes it easier for us to cross the Thunderpath on our way to Highstones."

"Ok." Rosepaw said. He looked over to his right and saw Patchpaw and Branchfall. Patchpaw smiled at him. "Isn't this amazing Rosepaw?" She purred. Our territory is so huge!"

Branchfall beckoned his apprentice with a flick of his tail. "We have places to be Patchpaw." He said sternly.

They walked off.

Graytail and Rosepaw continued.

When they got back, Patchpaw was already back. "Did you like it Rosepaw?" She asked. "I thought it was cool!" She said. "Yeah, I loved it!" Rosepaw meowed. "Want to share a mouse?" Patchpaw agreed, so they chose a small mouse and went to eat by the apprentice den. Alderpaw came over to the with a vole of his own. "Hello." He said. "Can I sit here?" He asked. "Sure!" Rosepaw purred. "Honeystripe told me where are training together tomorrow." Alderpaw meowed. "That should be fun."

"Yeah." Rosepaw agreed. "Are you going to the Gathering tonight?" "I am, yeah." Alderpaw said. "What about you guys." "We are" Patchpaw added.

On the way to the Gathering, Rosepaw caught up to Swanwhisker. "Hello Rosepaw." She said. "Are you excited for your first Gathering?" Rosepaw nodded. "I am."

When they got there, Heartstar leapt up onto Clan Rock. The other Clan leaders where there. Badgerstar of ShadowClan, Oakstar of RiverClan, and Seedstar of WindClan. "Let the Gathering begin!" Heartstar cried. All the cats fell silent as the ThunderClan leader spoke. "Our prey has been plentiful. A patrol chased a small ginger kittypet out of our territory. Also, we have two new apprentices. Rosepaw and Patchpaw."

Rosepaw shrank back behind his mother.

Badgerstar spoke. "ShadowClan is well. Leaf-bare has been good to us. We have one new Warrior. Sootclaw got his warrior name yesterday."

Now it was Oakstar's turn. She padded up to the front. "Our river is full of fish, but one of our elders have died."

Oakstar took her spot in the back as Seedstar came up. "WindClan's prey is falling. Rabbits are getting thinner because of Leaf-bare. We hope it doesn't get worse than this. Ashspots has retired to the Elders' den."
