After a few weeks, we’ve received an envelope in the mail with an invitation to a wedding. We both couldn’t believe that it was Darcy’s ex-boyfriend and Harold’s father who was getting married. It affected Darcy a lot. She didn’t expect it at all. It shocked me too, but she said she would attend anyway, because she knew she had to. She did get beaten by him before so she didn’t want that to happen again. She asked if I could accompany her and so I said I would.

Here we are, wandering around the mall; looking for the wedding clothes which should be in a few days. We got Harold a cute suit, which we both picked for him and I already got my clothes as well, but for Darcy, it was a bit hard to look for a dress for her, since she didn’t want to be too exposed, was still scared that someone will touch her again and she didn’t want many people to know that she was pregnant, though it wasn’t as noticeable.

We spent the whole day at the mall and at the end, we were all knackered, but we were relieved to all have gotten something. Darcy hasn’t been going outside much and so whenever she does, I promised that I would come with her, until she’s alright with it.

Harold must have seen changes in his mother from the past few days/weeks, since he kept asking me about it, though I knew I couldn’t say anything because Darcy didn’t want him to know, since he’s still too young for those things.

Ever since Harold has told me that, I’ve been paying a lot more attention and indeed, he was right. I have noticed that Darcy was starting to sleep with her son every night, make sure she spends a lot of time with him; she also got a new haircut and was wearing only pants or sweats. It was so weird to me, because I’d never seen her like that.

“Harry?”

“Yes Little Harry?” I said as my thoughts got interrupted by his voice. He stood by the door in the dark and I put my tea down next to me. He walked over and I put him on my lap and then Harold, who was holding his little plush in his hand started to cry.

“What is it hun?”

We talked for the whole night, until he fell asleep in my arms and I tucked him in his bed.

Days past by and then it was finally the day we haven’t really been waiting for, but more like preparing for.

We both weren’t ready for the wedding because she didn’t know how he was going to treat her or me or how the whole evening would go.

I woke her up, prepared breakfast and we spent half the day just chilling around. Then, she went to get her hair done, while I took Harold to play some mini golf, which he loved. She went to the spa afterwards and we got to go to the movies in the meantime, since it was next to the mini golf place anyway. When she was all ready for the wedding, we picked her up and drove home to go get ready also.

I put Harold in his suit after giving him a bath and then I got ready too. Darcy was the last one ready and both Harold and I waited for her. In the meantime, I read Harold stories, but made sure he wouldn’t fall asleep. When she came down, I told her she looked beautiful. It was the truth though. She did and it was the first time I had seen her smile after what happened to her. I mean she usually smiled when we were together, as a family, but this smile was a bit differently, it felt like a real one for once.

When we got to the wedding, we were welcomed by her ex’s family and it was sort of awkward, but we ignored that. There were lots of people around. Harold left us to go play with all the little kids. The wedding was held in a backyard. The house was huge and the garden was filled with flowers, so it fit well. She met him and congratulated him even if I knew how she must’ve felt. I stood with her while she was talking and he asked to see Harold, but when Darcy looked at me, she asked for a moment with him alone and then after their little talk, I knew she wasn’t okay. Even if I ask, she wouldn’t tell me. I knew that Harold never really got to see his father and he didn’t see him either, because after they cut the cake and dinner was over, Darcy asked if we could leave.
