Andy lifted his arms above his head in preparation for the attack to come, all the time spent near guards allowing him to almost flawlessly predict their basic battle plans. The guard brought his staff crashing down on the boulders above Andy who barely had enough time to protect himself. The rocks came crashing down, occasionally cracking the shield but otherwise doing it no real harm. The staff suddenly came onto Andy's shield, shattering it effortlessly, and causing tiny fragments to dig into him. The anger within Andy boiled over and he felt a familiar pain in his back. He used the guard's shock as chance to snap of the top of his left wing. In one swift motion he stabbed the guard in the heart, ignoring the pain that fizzed up his arm and into the his chest. What the guard did next surprised even Andy.
It had clearly noticed that the smaller figure had nearly arrived and therefore, using the last of it's strength, it sent down a fresh avalanche of rock crashing down and covering Andy. With an aura of smugness, the guard fell down to the floor, returning to the cold world he had come from.
When Jinxx had run the final stretch up to the pile of rocks panic began to rise within him. The only thing that stopped him becoming overwhelmed were the deep pants he could hear from within the pile of rubble. The pile of rocks suddenly exploded and Jinxx was flung back and crushed by one of them as it came flying past. His eyes widened at the sight of hope and desparity before him.
Andy was standing in the dent, smiling like a madman, his clothes far more tattered and bloody than before. His smile soon faded and he rushed up to Jinxx as soon as he saw what he had done.
"Shit. Shit. Shit. I'm so sorry. I didn't see you." he said, almost pleading with Jinxx, begging him for forgiveness. This was the reason that Andy felt reluctance at using his abilities, despite the calmness they gave him - he always ended up doing something wrong.
"Hey, it's okay...I seriously need you to tell me your name. I can't keep thinking of something to call you." Jinxx said, accepting Andy's apology but still adding a plead of his own.
Andy was unsure of what to do. He didn't want to tell Jinxx his name but felt like he needed to do something. He owed him it after managing to get him trapped under a rock. After a few minutes of contemplation he decided to tell Jinxx something that he had been called long ago. Not a name, but something that he had gone by when he was roaming the deserts alone, after all, Andy was something that his parents called him, and he wanted as little to do with them as possible.
"The Prophet."
Jinxx nodded.
"Well then Prophet, can you manage to get me out of this rocks or do I need to call on someone else to come and help?" Andy didn't want to have anyone else to come, but after a few more attempts, only succeeding in moving the boulder slightly further along his arm, gave in, hanging his head low. Jinxx grinned at him before letting out a long, viberating whistle.
Andy watched as someone came running up from the camp. He must have zoned out because the next thing he knew the guy from earlier was shaking him softly by the shoulder.
"You awake pal?" Andy shook his head, thousands of thoughts, memories and fears running wild through his head.
CC gave him a pitying look before gesturing for him to help. After a few minutes of grunting they succeeded in shifting the rock far enough to allow Jinxx to free his arm. As soon as they did Andy knelt down to Jinxx and was about to apologise again before the person next to him interrupted him.
"My name's CC. I'm sorry about earlier, I had no idea about..." CC trailed off, unsure of how what details to mention.
"It's fine, I wouldn't expect you to know." Andy replied, the forgiveness he felt evident in his voice.
"Thanks man, I like the wings by the way, are they meant to be bleeding though?." CC replied happily, more conversationally than concerned.
Andy went into full panic mode. He hurridley tucked away his wings. He tried desperately to remove the black marking from his face but to no avail. By this point, Andy was beginning to hyperventilate. He'd spent so many years managing to keep his... difference...from almost everyone. The last time people found out was when his parents sent him to the FEAR institution. Andy was shaking by this point. He couldn't hear what CC and Jinxx were saying, all he could hear was the steadily building static. On the horizon he could see a few other shapes. If he left now he might be able to lead them away from the others. He sprinted away, unable to hear any of Jinxx's pleas.
He didn't look back. He didn't know they were following him. He didn't care. He just wanted to try and get rid of the guards before they spotted the settlement and attacked it or told anyone else. He was fully aware of what would happen if the guards succeeded in performing either of those options.
Andy suddenly found himself alone in the desert. He spun around searching for Jinxx, CC, even the guards, anything that would indicate to him that he wasn't alone. Blinding light met his eyes, but not from one direction. Andy began to panic now. He knew how powerful they were as a group. He'd seen it before. His mouth opened involuntarily and, just as he felt a searing pain at his chest, he began to sing, his deep voice gaining a comforting and yet sorrowful tone.
"I pray for for mourning,
I swear I'll never let you die.
These saints within us,
Can bring this moment back to life"
By this point screams of pain were replacing the static and blood was pooling around Andy. He didn't care. He kept singing, his voice more angry and war-like than before
"And my heart's held high,
This battle-cry I'll march on
On the horizon we will,
RESURRECT THE SUN
SUN
SUN
RESURRECT THE SUN
SUN
SUN
RESURRECT THE SUUUUUUUN!"
With each repetition of the word sun Andy's voice resembled more of a scream, fully becoming one by the final word.
The ground shook and Andy felt the same familiar releif spread through his body. The static in his mind began to fade and his vision fully returned, allowing him to see Jinxx and CC standing in front of him, concern clear on their faces. Andy stumbled back, choking on air.
They both had black markings on their faces.
