Felix's POV.
I awoke with Cry's dark hair against my chest. Her arms around my waist. Mine around her much smaller ones.
Her hips had filled out more, I noticed.
It was morning. Geoff was up. I gently tried to pry her off me but she woke up.
"Hey beautiful," my scratchy morning voice croaked. She smiled.
"Hey gorgeous."
"Food," I said.
"Food," she agreed and I crawled over, still in my sleeping bag, to the food and got us out some snack bars each.
Geoff had already eaten I suppose.
"We should get moving," I said. She nodded.
Her skin was even more pale from sleep and her eyes were wide and vibrant.
She helped me up and packed my bag. I felt bad but she said she wanted to.
We all hopped back in the car and drove for an hour until the car ran out of gas conveniently one block from the hotel. I hopped as fast as I could.
We rounded the corner and one zombie was in a white coat with red blood covering the front of it. They turned.
It was doctor Vierdenig.
The wounds in his neck meant he couldn't breathe anyway so the cure wouldn't work.
I don't know why he is so fresh. Something has definitely gone wrong.
Cry saw it too. Geoff stabbed him.
We looked away.
He felt to the ground and Geoff pulled the knife out of his temple.
Cry kicked in the door but I hopped past.
I scanned the room and found her at a table. I had the needle in my hand.
"Felix!" She cried.
She ran at me and wrapped her arms around me.
Her face was covered in blood. She killed the doctor.
She had not beautiful blue eyes but white ones with tiny pupils in slits.
"Tayla," I said partially horrified.
"I missed you!" She said.
She focused her eyes on cry behind me and the black slits took over her entire face.
She started growling.
"Tayla no!" She ran at cry and pinned her to the ground.
I just have to get her the antidote.
She snapped at Cry's face. Cry barred her forearm against Tayla's neck as she bit. Cry screamed for help and Geoff shot but it missed and they rolled over.
Tayla was on the bottoms now.
Geoff shot again.
I turned around and shot him. I immediately regretted it.
He fell to the floor and was dead before he hit it.
He could have killed Tayla or cry.
My crutches fell out from under me and I collapsed to the floor.
Both of them were screaming. I had a gun in my hand.
Cry was losing.
The only way I could save her would be to shoot Tayla.
"Tayla STOP!" I yelled.
She didn't hear me. Her matted brown hair flicked around her salivating mouth as her wild all black eyes were intent on ripping out Cry's throat.
Cry rolled so she was on top of Tayla and had a knife aimed at her face. It was taking all of Tayla's strength to resist and keep it a centimetre from her nose.
"Stop!" I yelled again. They didn't hear and kept fighting.
If I shoot cry I can save Tayla.
If I do nothing Tayla dies and cry lives.
I love them both.
I can't shoot cry.
But I can't let Tayla die.
I took aim at Cry's arm. Maybe they could both survive that way.
I can't watch myself shoot her.
I closed my eyes and fired.
