As the bell rang students automatically grabbed their belongings and soon switched into autopilot to get to their next classes.
Ms.Pye waited at her desk, her eyes searching around the classroom.
To many students who aren't familiar with the school staff she is just another substitute.
As for the children who see her on a daily basis for counseling they would immediately recognize her.
The students who she does do counseling with aren't always happy to see her, non of the less she still gives them a pleasant smile. Being the schools counselor does have its downs and ups but she does greatly enjoy her job.
The most difficult part is though how she only gets to know the students who are recommended to her. She never really gets to go out into the field and find those that appear to truly need help.
Which is why when she saw Peter Parker she wasn't just going to just let him leave.
"Peter!" She called out before he could exit the classroom. Peter turned his head to the substitute teacher. After collecting his remaining items into his bag he maneuvered through the students towards the teachers desk.
By the time Peter made it to her desk most students had already left the room to get to their next class.
"I wanted to talk to you and it's okay if you don't say anything back." Ms.Pye informed him. Peter felt a little twinge of gratefulness that the woman wasn't going to try to make him speak to her like all the other teachers do.
"I am not aware of the circumstances you are in or what you have been through,I know that I myself can't change your situation entirely. I do know though that I want to help you become a stronger person for whatever is happening." After she finished her miniature persuasion speech she studied Peters face.
His face read "Why would I come to you for help and don't you know I can't come and talk to you about feelings."
"Before you think I am insane," she started
"I am actually the school counselor and I would love if you came and I talked to you." "You don't have to pay anything and you don't have to say anything." She told the last part hurriedly, not wanting to loose the teenagers attention.Peter at first showed no consideration to the idea. Because of that Ms.Pye's irrational thoughts snuck in no matter how hard sensibility tried to shoo them away.
The thoughts were a little bit like this:Had she failed? Was the student going to request to switch schools? Was she never going to be able to help him speak?
The tight strings in her chest loosened as Peter gave a thumbs up. A small lipped smile gracing his features.
"Oh good golly." She thought " It actually worked!" "He even smiled!" She felt like doing a little jig but restrained herself. Peter pointed to an imaginary watch on his wrist.
"Oh,yes!" She said after coming back to reality. After finding a bright orange sticky note she scribbled onto it. "Here are the times you can see me and it tells where you can find my office." She told Peter while handing it out to him.
Peter nodded while taking the sticky note from Ms.Pye's hands. Peter than continued to leave the classroom to try not to be late to his next class. Ms.Pye slumped into the rolling chair at the desk feeling emotionally drained.
Out of the disrespectful, chitter chattering and giggly students she has had today Mr.Parker has definitely worn her out the most.
Now all she has to do is anxiously wait to see if Mr.Parker even comes to any of the optional times.
