To "Speak"

It struck Peter funny that throughout the conversation with who he learned to be named Ned yesterday he didn't once ask about why he would rather use hands to communicate than his lips.

It's been awhile since Peter has had someone that he could have a full conversation with. Sure there was Aunt May with her Care Takers and Maids but it is rather difficult to convey the emotions you felt as Darth Vader stopped breathing through A.S.L.

That's why he was happy to "speak" with Ned. Ned wasn't interested in why Peter was the way he was he was interested in Peter and who he was as a person. Sure he could sign to May his favorite color but May already knows everything Peter enjoys and prefers so there's no need to tell or ask. Which is why having someone ask what his favorite food is really gave Peter a happy feeling. Peter barely ever gets to tell anyone about himself.

Peter saw Ned at his table the next day again but it wasn't just him and M.J. It was also some kids who would never be seen to associate with Peter.

Setting his lunch down so he could sign he asked Ned "Who are they?"

"Oh this is" Ned was interrupted by Harry introducing himself instead.

" I am Harry Osborn and this is M.J." Mary Jane shot eye daggers at Harry for the nickname and continued to correct him.

"Actually call me Mary Jane. I beg of you to not call me M.J."

Peter seemed frazzled for a moment. "Sure I don't communicate a lot with people my age but are they all named the same?" Peter thought.

"Are they both named Mary Jane?" Peter asked.

"What is he saying?" Mary Jane questioned for herself and Harry.

"Oh he wants to know if you and that girl" he tilted his head towards M.J "are both named Mary Jane." Ned explained.

"Wait there's someone else with your name?" Harry said sounding smug. "And you don't know them?" He rhetorically asked with fake shock. He placed a hand  on his chest and another on his head to add emphasis on the sarcasm.

"Oh please" Mary Jane said shoving him a bit as she stood "Maybe I don't know because she's new."

"Why is it so important you don't know M.J?" Ned said directing the question at Mary Jane but Harry answered for her.

"She's the popular stereotype gossip girl who must know everyone and their locker number."
Harry told in a mock girl voice.

"Sounds like a stalker." Peter signed getting Ned to snort.

"Well whatever joke you just made." Mary Jane said as she pointed to Peter. "Or whatever Harry and you think." She pointed to Ned.
"I am going to introduce myself!" Walking the few feet to the end of the table where M.J sat Mary Jane carried herself high with fire in her eyes.

"This won't end well." Harry told sounding actually concerned.

"Yeah." Ned agreed. Peter nodded his head to add his own input.

At this point Mary Jane has sat herself down in front of M.J with a performed look curiosity and innocence.

"Does this happen often?" Peter asked Ned.

"No,not for most people." Ned answered.

"What's up with these people?" Peter thought. "Or is this just what it is to be a normal teenager?"
