Fate. An inevitable series of events that goes beyond a person's control. An invisible force that decides just how lucky you are.
Izuku was born unlucky. Unlucky and quirkless.
Fate can be pretty cruel sometimes.

Izuku laid awake at night, the shadows of his room creeping up his back and tingling his spine. He couldn't sleep.
After a long and endless night of tired eyes and crawling nightmares, Izuku was greeted by the morning sun. His alarm blared against his ears, signaling the start of a new day.
Reluctantly sitting up and pressing the snooze button, he turned back around and collapsed once more, letting the soft blankets consume his body.
Contradictory to his actions, Inko, his mother, walked in and gently shook the boy's shoulder, only to be responded to with an exhausted gruff.
"Izuku, sweetie! Time to get up, or you'll be late for school!" She chirped in her usually cheery voice.
Izuku looked up at her, revealing his heavy eye bags and cold grimace. Judging by his appearance, he obviously didn't want nor have the energy to go to school.
"Mom, I don't feel so good again." He coughed to prove his point.
Inko's face changed to a look of concern. "Does your head hurt? Have you been eating all three meals a day? Let me go make you some soup." She quickly turned around and headed for the door.
"Mom! I don't need soup or anything. I just... didn't get a lot of sleep last night."
"Are you sure? Do you want me to call the school and tell them you're sick at least? I'm very worried, Izuku. This is the fourth time this month."
"No no, it's fine. I'll still go to school." Izuku scratched his head and awkwardly laughed. "Guess homework's been taking a toll on me lately."
He hoped his mom would take his very transparent lie and leave him alone already. He clearly wasn't lying about not getting enough sleep, but truthfully, he just didn't want to attend school today.
A place built for the very purpose of letting other kids ridicule and belittle the weak.
That's how Izuku saw it anyways.
Each day there was like a new day in hell. Each day, a new torture method. Each day filled with more scars and heavier thoughts.
When was the last time he had ever felt safe at school?
Perhaps, in preschool, when he and Kacchan were still friends. Before the manifestation of their quirks. Before Kacchan received his. Before everyone found out that he would never develop one himself.
Had quirks not existed, Izuku could've led a normal and happy life.
But who said that life was fair, anyways?
Instead, Izuku led a life full of bullying and isolation. All because he was fated not to have a quirk like the rest of them.
Well at least, that's what everyone else thinks.
