It was a Saturday afternoon. Renjun and Jeno sat on the couch in Renjun's home, and they were going on their phones and snacking on chips in a comfortable silence. (the ass whooping i would get if i ate food at the couch, sicheng is one kind man damn)
"By the way Renjun, I think Jaemin was looking for you," Jeno said, breaking the silence. "On Friday."
Renjun looked up from his phone, intrigued. "Really? Did you see him?"
"Yeah, he was running down the halls looking to see if you were there. I stalled him for a bit to make small talk and he seemed really distressed that I stopped him." Jeno picked up a chip and nibbled on the edges. "After that I followed him a bit but I probably wasn't subtle at all. But anyway he was really annoyed that you weren't there."
Renjun was silent. Jeno continued, "are you going to keep running forever? I can tell Jaemin's getting frustrated. Imagine being in his perspective, losing years of your memory and your biggest chance at remembering being impossible to track down. If I were him I would look for you too."
"Are you trying to say something?" Renjun questioned.
"Maybe I am," Jeno shrugged. "I just think what you're doing is only hurting both of you. Just look at yourself—" Jeno gestured to Renjun, eyeing his dark eye circles and unwashed hair, "—and look at Jaemin. No offense but your plan isn't really working."
"Maybe you're right," Renjun said slowly, playing with a loose thread on his sweater. "But I'm scared, you know? And I don't want him to remember all the bad memories, he looks so much happier now..."
"That's only what you want to think, Renjun. He's not happier now. If you saw the look on his face when he was looking for you, you'd know that he's confused and the smile he puts up is only for show. I know you don't like hearing what I'm saying and that you want to protect him, I get that, and I will still help you in whatever you decide to do. But I'm just saying that you could reconsider your plans and stop making both your lives so difficult." Jeno sighed deeply. "But that's a thought for later, can we go out and do something fun? I feel bad for bringing down the mood."
Renjun snorted. "As if you don't usually ruin the mood with your jokes."
Before Jeno could hurl a cushion in Renjun's direction he laughed and covered his face in surrender. "Yeah sure, let's go somewhere. How about ice cream?"
