Chapter 12
The dinner was done with, and it thankfully passed without much conversation after the embarrassment conversation. Now you and Angel stood in the parking lot on your way to the lambo waiting for you. You moved slightly slowly, patting your stomach in content.
“Woah,” you moaned. ‘That was the best meal I’ve ever had!” Angel smirked with his back towards you. Yes, he was going to give you a lot of things. All until you confessed you were in love with him and he could pat you gently on the head and say in a sweet and tender voice, ‘I’ll let you stay regardless. I’ve grown to care for you’.
He planned to never admit he loved you, until at least a year after you said it. And god damn it he was going to wait. No matter how long he had to.
“So, where are we going?” you asked as he started the car. The stars were in the sky, but you couldn’t see them over the light of the city and airport.
“We’re going to the Cosimo manor. You have to meet my family.” A shiver ran up your spine. You had never been in an actual relationship… now you were meeting the parents of the guy you were marrying in a month.
With your hands shaking in fear and your mind running through every possible scenario, Angel drove with a grimace on his face. He hated his family more than anything in the world. They were all fake; to him, to themselves, to the world. Sometimes he doubted there was a real side. If there ever had been, it was tucked away, cut off, sucked out. There was nothing left but fake smiles and plastic surgery.
You drove through the coloured lights of the city, and your eyes lit up like a child’s.
“Woah!” you awed at the tall skyscrapers surrounding you. Angel’s eyes glanced over you and he smiled. He loved the sight of you under the lights of the city. You belonged here, with him.
After a while, you left the city and entered the richer district. The houses were bigger than most buildings you had ever seen, and they had to each be a mile apart because of courtyards and estates.
Finally Angel approached a large manor with a ten foot tall wrought iron gate surrounding a large plot of land. In the center of the brick roundabout was a tall, bubbling fountain with a cupid’s statue in the center. The cream coloured outside was three levels tall. There were lots of windows on every floor, all nearly the same size and lined in a dark wood. The steep roof was intimidating, but enchanting.
You felt like a princess entering a castle as the gates were opened by an old man with wispy white hair. Angel sighed, nearly a groan, as he pulled in and parked beside another few cars. They were all brands you have heard of, but never seen.
“C’mon,” Angel said, getting out of the car. He rolled his eyes and stuffed his hands in his pockets, histantly trudging towards the manor. You raced to catch up with him since you had to walk around the car.
“Are you okay?” you asked him, folding your hands together and trying to distract yourself from how nervous you were. He glanced at you with a soft expression, a smile tugging at the corner of his lip. He wiped it away and covered it with a forced cough.
“Y-Yeah,” he stuttered. “Just… Just don’t embarrass me in front of my family, YN!” his voice grew venomous while he stormed faster and quicker away from you. You scowled in his direction, but raced to follow him.
You reached the front mahogany doors with gold coloured handles that looked as though they had been freshly shined and polished. Light leaked through the windows around the doors, and from where you stood you could see a chandelier hanging from the ceiling with many diamonds.
Angel opened the door without a second thought, and you kept your eyes down on the sparkling tile floors.
“Look up,” Angel commanded. “Or else you’re gonna run into something.” You did as he told you to, and looked around the enchanting room. Under the chandelier was a dark coloured table with a crystal bowl of fruit beneath it. There were twin staircases spiralling upwards onto a second floor.
There was the sound of clicking heels on the floor, steadily growing closer. You noticed Angel tense, and you took a small step closer to him. Your heart rate grew with the volume of the clicking, the intensity of the situation making everything seem to slow down.
A woman came to a stop at the railing stopping her from tumbling over the edge and onto the floor you stood on. Her young face was covered in layers of makeup and surrounded by bleach blonde hair. Her eyes lit up as she released an ear splitting shriek before rushing down the carpeted stairs down to where you stood beside Angel. You felt as though she would run you over and possibly kill you both. Her heels were terrifying, and made it so she towered over you.
“Angel baby sweet little boy!” She engulfed Angel in a hug, and he pried away.
“YN,” he said, motioning to the woman with disdain in his eyes. “This is my mother.”
