I awoke the next morning to smells of burning syrup and fresh coffee. I draped my spider-man blanket, courtesy of Peter himself, over my shoulders like a cape. I sauntered into the kitchen, the trail of the blanket following behind on the floor. I blinked at the bright lights from the floor to ceiling windows which led to a porch which faced the enormous blue ocean. To the right was the kitchen, where Tony was shamefully scraping his burnt French toast into the garbage. "It smelled better than it tasted." He grunted when he saw me standing in the doorway. I shrugged and yawned, waving a blanketed hand in the air.

T slid a mug down the counter and coffee sloshed over the edges. I was grateful, and said as much. As I took a tentative sip, he sighed and glanced out the giant windows. "Pete had rough night last night."

I tilted my head and he shook his, unwilling to say any more. With a frown, I followed his gaze out the windows. I then noticed Peter, sitting on floor of the deck, his back leaned against the window. With a sigh, I slid open the sliding glass door to join him.

His hair was a mess, and he wore a crumpled wrinkly T-shirt of mine he had stolen that was far too big for me. Sweat pants hugged his legs and if his face wasn't so bedraggled, he might look hot.

Well, he kinda did anyways.

He didn't glance up as I slid the door closed behind me and slid down the wall to sit beside him. I held out my blanket, and he curled up underneath of it beside me. I offered him my mug, which he took a few sips of before handing it back.

I knew better than to ask if he was okay. It wasn't like him. Wasn't like me.

"So. I planned out today minute by minute. So far-" I looked down at my wrist as if a watch was there, but there was nothing. I'm not a watch person-"we're three point five six four minutes behind schedule."

That got a mild chuckle out of him and I smiled. "T burnt breakfast." I muttered and took a sip of the burning black sludge.

He huffed and shook his head. "It stinks. Um, I went out and got donuts this morning." I turned to him and raised an eyebrow.

"I didn't take you for a morning person."

He shrugged and I shifted so I could cross my legs. "Couldn't sleep." I wrapped my arm around his shoulders and pulled him close to me.

"You better not be falling asleep today. That would put off our schedule!" I saw him smile and he laid his head on my shoulder.

"I'm scared for May."

"Tony has an eye for that woman. He wouldn't put her in harms way."

I felt him shuffle awkwardly beside me. With a gentle hand, he took my mug and took another sip.

"But I'm not there to protect her..." Web's voice trailed of and I rolled my eyes. I set the mug down and turned to face him. In a swift movement, I squished his face in my hands and he pursed his lips in protest. "Webkins, love you man, but you have to trust her and Tony. You mean so much to him and he knows how much May means to you. From what I've heard of her, she could kick anyone's butt with her eyes closed. No stressing. That doesn't happen til 6:36 tonight when we stress over whether fireworks are illegal on this island and if they'll set fire to the dune weeds."

Finally he met my eyes and smiled. "Alright. As long as I'm with you. What's on the agenda then?"

Peter squirmed and squealed, running from Tony. "It's cold!" He complained and ran down the stairs off the deck.

"Peter Benjamin Parker get your lousy butt back up here! If you don't put sunscreen you're gonna get burnt again!" Tony yelled and I saw Webs peek over a step.

"But..."
"No buts!"

I snickered as Peter squirmed while T sprayed him with spray on sunscreen. He stuck his tongue out at me, which I happily returned.

I slapped a piece of provolone onto the bread, while beside me Peter worked hard slathering peanut butter on a piece of bread. I laughed at him sticking his tongue out as he concentrated.

"What? It has to be a perfectly even layer!" He protested before bursting into laughter himself.

"Oh zip it and hand me the turkey!" I squealed as he threw the packet of deli turkey at me which hit me with a thwap.

Sandwiches in our bellies and sand between our toes, Peter rocked the board before sliding in the water.

"Come on Spider-Man! I thought you were able to stick to things!"

"Apparently not in water." He grumbled and climbed back on our paddle board. It took us a few tries to balance, but after a few long minutes he sat near the front, cross-legged.

I stood behind him, paddle in hand as I pushed our board foreword. "Okay cap'n, keep an eye out for shells. Not any of those boring ones you always see. I want something worthy of a million dollar necklace!"

In front of me, Webs saluted before turning back to look at the water. I paddled until he told me to stop and pointed. In a swift motion, I handed him the paddle and slid into the water.

Through strained eyes, I saw what he was pointing at. I dove down and fumbled with the sand before feeling our objective. With a pointed splash, I broke the surface and Peter sputtered as I splashed him.

"Did you get it at least?" He whined, wiping his face dry. Or at least trying to.

I opened my hand to show him a perfectly round white sand dollar. Without looking, we high-fived.

"Sweet."

6:39:42
I rested my chin in my hand, elbow rested on the railing of the deck. Peter stood beside me, his head tilted up and his mouth formed an O. Above us, the sky burst into bright colors as Tony launched fireworks from the beach.

"Are these illegal?" I questioned, tilting my head off to one side.

"Better question: could we burn down the house if the dune weeds caught on fire?" I laughed in response to his mock question and turned to face him.

He continued staring, his features lit up bright purples and reds. The beach wind, carrying hints of salt and sunshine, brushed his curly hair. His cheeks and the tips of his ears were pink, a result of him running from Tony when he told us to put on more sunscreen. But his brown eyes. They swirled in bewilderment and wonder and held soft flecks of green around the edges.

I was tempted to glance away when they found mine, but instead I smiled. It took me by surprise when he pulled me into a swift hug, my head against his chest. I heard the thuds of his heartbeat sound to the same tune of the bursting fireworks. We swayed softly from side to side, and I closed my eyes tight, trying to make up my mind.

I lifted my head to look at him, his face inches from mine.
He smiled down at me.

I smiled back.

I stood up, standing more on my toes and pressed my lips against his.

The moment was right.

He kissed back.
