From the Royal Diaries of the Leonesse Family

I always thought I would die on the Fathomsea. My geomagy binds me to Albemar's accursed shores, but sometimes the tinkling of the gold and pink coquina shells rolling in the sea foam still beckons me. I dream of bright cloudbanks; innumerable Kingdom Isles teeming on the horizon's edge. Someone else must name them for me now—

—Queen Rosavere the First, 866 ASf

Sweet Isabeau, you left me with nothing but our daughter's name. I never imagined Snow White would have to grow up in a world beyond the reach of your radiance. Please forgive me for falling into a new dream. Estelle lightens a void that I cannot.

—King Markham, 1108 ASf

The weight of emptiness always surprises me when another one leaves me behind. First Father, then Snow, Micah and now, Kel Miros. It's the unsaid things that crush me the most. All the secrets we didn't get to share, the silly quarrels we never had.

They add up to something real and hard and impossible to throw away no matter how I try. Maybe that's because I'm the stone, not the hand holding it.

No one escapes their sorry twist of fate, least of all me.

—Princess Rosavere, 1126 ASf
