There is nothing like starting over in a new school. Especially if that school is half way across the country in a tiny little town a sixteenth of the size of where you came from, and oh yeah, it's located in the bible belt.

Perfect. Especially if you are a confused teenage girl bent on being different. Then you move from free thinking Cali to conforming Oklahoma. Ugh. This could not be happening to Alexis. She did not deserve this.

Alexis could not have imagined how hard that first day would be; you see Alexis wasn't a 'normal' fifteen year old girl. She was a fifteen year old girl who had dyed her beautiful blonde hair black and cut it off short and who only wore dark colors and black eyeliner. Her own family didn't understand her.

On that fateful first day, Alexis wore a formfitting black tee and black jeans accompanied by her trademark black makeup and black combat boots.

"You're seriously going to go dressed like that?" her older sister, Valerie sneered.

Alexis sneered back but didn't answer. What did Valerie know anyway? Her "friends" in Cali were a bunch of misfit Harry Potter junkies.

Alexis looked over at her younger sister, Daphne. Daphne was in a red tank top and blue jeans. She looked good, but Daphne always looked good. And that attitude she always carried around showed that she knew she looked good. Just the way she walked made you believe she owned the place. Alexis rolled her eyes.

"You guys better get to the bus stop." Alexis' mother called about seven o'clock.

Alexis took a deep breath and they all walked quietly to the bus stop. Alexis should have got the hint when she first got on the bus of just how this day was going to go. The bus was full of bubbly kids all talking and laughing in their best and most colorful outfits. Plus the bus was packed. Daphne quickly grabbed a seat next to some other clueless blonde leaving Alexis and Valerie to sit next to each other. Lovely....

Upon arrival at school Alexis realized something she should have realized much sooner... No one here was like her. Like not even close to her. There were no goths... no emos.... no one even remotely unique. This school was full of average everyday American teenagers. Oh God! Alexis almost threw up.

The first breakfast Daphne sat with Alexis. They were both in the middle school, Valerie was (thankfully) at the high school. The school food was average. Not great, not horrible. Just average.

First period started and Alexis found herself in a bright classroom filled with natural light from the wall of windows at the back of the room. In this brightly lit classroom Alexis became aware of how distinctly different she truly was. All the girls were dressed brightly in the latest fashions; showing off as much skin as possible without getting sent to the office.

Alexis sat down in the back corner trying to avoid everyone. She felt more out of place than she ever had.

"What's with all the uh black?" a guy whose name turned out to be Xavier asked.

Alexis didn't answer. She just stared into his eyes without blinking.

"Stop that! I feel like you want to murder me!" Xavier said.

Alexis narrowed her eyes but didn't blink or look away. Xavier turned away.

Second period was art. Alexis loved art. However, the way the classroom was set up in this class wasn't something Alexis enjoyed. Instead of desks there were tables. Four tables arranged in a square with seats on the outside. Which meant Alexis had to sit next to another student. UGH! What was going on here??? Alexis was shocked a plague hadnt wiped this place out as close as everyone was sitting. It was disgusting really.

Who knew Oklahoma could even ruin art. Alexis seriously couldn't handle anymore.
