Chapter 16
Forever Halted Plans

Tragedy (noun)
An event causing great suffering, destruction, and distress, such as a serious accident, crime, or natural catastrophe.

A feeling of dread had fallen over the two of us, even as we were walking our way back to David and the others.

We hadn't found much. In my pack was only some antibiotics and perishable food cans. Tyler had snagged a Revolver and ammunition, along with about five water bottles.

Only ten minutes until we would've reached our destination is when we sensed something had gone wrong. Unfamiliar vehicles were visibly parked amongst the road near to where we were staying.

Swiftly, the two of us pulled out our pistols and began running around towards the back of the cabin, but there was no sound to be heard.

"Lui," My voice quivered, the gash on my cheek causing my jaw to ache. "What do you plan on doing now? I mean..."
He turned around to face me, his face long with bags of dreariness under his eyes.

"I... Well, the first thing, I want to make those Brian pay for..." He stopped short.
My eyebrows creased due to his sudden stop.

"I found him. My brother." Lui mumbled, but his voice wavered slightly. "He was dead, though. Shirtless. 'Brian' was carved into his chest."
"Oh my God... How'd Brian-"
"He knew because I told him," Lui cut me off, turning away to look at the road before him.

"So, my plan? Kill Brian with my own two hands. Make him pay. Get revenge."
His tone of voice ended the rest of the conversation, and silence ensued.

Slowly, both Tyler and I opened the back screen door, silently sneaking through the kitchen to peek at the living room.
"-and we're given orders. To make sure you lot don't escape again." One familiar voice spat. "You really thought you could escape again?"

When I found a chance to look into the living room, I was met with a distressing sight.
David and Lui were backed up against the wall, Envy and a different man standing in front.

"Most of us did. So, you failed." Lui answered back, spite in his voice. "You lost Jon, Tyler, and Evan."
My stomach felt like it did a physical pivot.

That's when I spotted Lui slowly moving his arm behind his lower back, a shiny black thing pushed into the back of his jeans.
"He's not-" Tyler whispered, cutting himself off.

Envy snarled, getting closer to Lui with her USP-S pistol. "You'd mind to not get sassy with me, kid!"
David made a visible move to try and protect Lui, but the other guy grabbed him by the shirt and pushed him up against the wall.

"Me? Oh, I guess..." David looked thoughtfully out the window, the sunrise peeking out from the horizon. "After all of this, when we find a place, I'd like to do something special."
"Special how?" I asked, adjusting my spot on the barstool.

Slowly, David reached into his pack, trying his damnest to not make a sound, to not wake the sleeping Lui just behind them.
He revealing a shiny, gold band that had three diamonds decorating the top. "Found this on a pillaged wedding shop. It was hiding under a bout of broken glass."
"Don't tell me," I looked to Lui. "You're going to-?"

David nodded. "Yeah. I'm gonna propose to him."

The next moments were a quick blur. The moment Envy had turned her head, Lui pulled his gun out, aiming towards the anonymous man who still had David pushed up against the wall.
The moment Lui pulled his trigger, Envy had hers.

Blood splattered against both of our friends. The anonymous man was dead once he hit the wooden ground.

Lui, with a fresh bullet hole in his chest, had fallen backwards and into the wall, sliding to the floor.
Both Tyler and I ran out of our spot, but not quick enough to stop Envy's following action.

David looked down to his own chest, fresh blood pouring from the wound.
He, too, collapsed against the floor, blood dripping from the corner of his mouth.

I could almost feel my heart stop, my movements controlled purely out of rage. Both Tyler and I shot Envy in the forehead as soon as she turned to see us.

"Lui," I gasped, dropping my pistol and running to the younger man. I kneeled next to him, my jeans getting soaked from his blood.
My hand lifted his head. "Lui, come on." Tears began falling from my eyes. "You can't leave us. Not yet." My voice cracked. But his eyes wouldn't open, and his chest stopped rising.

I could faintly hear Tyler mumbling to David, who sat him upright. Neither did he have a reaction that would hint at life.

Lui and David were both dead.
