Chapter 17
The Search

Days had passed since the initial attack, the time when two of our family were murdered. The house was silent between the organic people, nothing was heard besides the natural creaking of the building. Jon hadn't returned from when he first went off into the woods, so it was Tyler and I who carried the burden of staying.

Speaking of which, we were both off and on the whole time. Tyler had random bouts of anger and silence. I felt gloomy most of the time, letting myself cry when Ty wasn't around to witness it. All my strength just escaped.

But, right now, Ty and I just sat on the couch with each other. We didn't speak much, since both of us either felt like punching something or sobbing, but there wasn't an uncomfortable quiet between us.
I was staring at the blood caked on the floor from where Lui was shot when someone tapped me on the shoulder. Thankful for the excuse to look away, I turned my head to find Tyler, getting ready to stand.

"Jon's been gone long enough." Was the only thing he said, which was self explanatory. And I had to agree.
We both stood, me nodding with the plan. "We don't have much to bring, but we should also leave something here in case he comes back." I quickly explained. "A note with some food and first aid, or something."

Ty nodded. "I was thinking the same."
With that, we both walked in different directions, gathering up some supplies. For me, it was my guns, duffel, and knife. Tyler had pretty much the same, but took it upon himself to pack the meds and food with himself.

After a couple minutes of searching in drawers, I had produced a pen and a piece of ripped paper for Jon's note.
Jon,
We're going out to search for you. In the event you come back before us, stay here and wait. Help yourself to the supplies next to this note.
-Evan and Tyler

"Okay," I capped the pen and tossed it over my shoulder carelessly. Tyler set down a can of beans, alcohol, and some bandages around the paper. "We're good, I think." Ty nodded, so we both walked out of the back door. Going this way meant we had to see the two graves we had dug earlier in the week, which didn't help my morale.
The two of us stopped, our heads turning to the two sticks in the ground. The two were joined by David's ring, being held together by the small metal. Tyler had a difficult time accepting the fact that a proposal never happened, and never will. We both decided it was the best we could do.

After a couple of moments staring at the graves, I felt a hand grab mine. They squeezed it reassuringly, and we both averted our eyes back to the tree line in front of us.
Neither of us let go as we continued walking. It mostly comforted me, reminded me I still have a reason to fight.

(Apologies for not updating in forever. I'm going to be ending this very soon, before or at twenty chapters. And, so, I'm sorry in advance. -Kirby)
