We Are Out Of Each Others Leagues

Chapter Twenty Five

Mason's Pov:

I get at Riley's room. Chad paused at the door and he leans at the wall. I look at him and he shows me to go in first. I went in and Riley smiles when she sees me. I run up to her bed and her dad stops me.

"No physical contact till the doctors has checked her." he says and I nod. 

With the spinal cord we are not aloud to touch her till the doctors has done their check up on it. Any kind of damage to it might cause that Riley ends up being paralyzed the rest of her life. I did my research about it myself to know what to expect. And we have no idea if it is recovering or not cause the only way you can check that is if Riley's awake. Riley looks at her dad and then at me again. I could see she is confused now. She has no idea what is going on. She looks at me and she smiles again.

"Hey..." she says her voice cracking up a bit. She clears her throat and she just smiles again at me.

I take her hand and I sit down next to her.

"Hey." I said with the biggest grin on my face. I have waited five months to finally see her eyes and that beautiful smile of hers again.

She takes her hand and she gently rubs my face. I lean into her touch and kissed her hand, holding it in mine. 

"I have missed you so much baby." I said and her eyes widen and she looks to her dad. Her dad just looks down and she blushes a bright pink and look back to me.

"They know."

"They know what?" she asks looking confused.

"We know about you and Mason." Chad says standing at the door. 

Riley looks up at him and I could see she doesn't know what to say. She tries to say something but her voice just keeps cracking up. She shakes her head and she sighs.

"It's okay Ri." Chad says and he comes to her bed to the other side. He takes her hand and he squeeze it in his hand. She smiles.

"It's good to see you awake Ri." he says and she nods and smiles at him. 

"What happened to me?" she asks and she looks around. 

Just then her mom comes in and she smiles all happy. She had tears in her eyes and she leaves my hand with Chad's hand and she reaches out to her mom for a hug. Her mom comes to her and she takes her hands. 

"Hey sweetie." Ava says smiling at her with tears in her eyes. Riley blinks a few times and the next thing Riley starts crying.

Her mom looks around at all of us. Riley cries and she looks up and down and I see she is trying to move but she is struggling. 

"Sweetie you need to lay still." Ava says. She looks up to me and I just shrug. 

I take Riley's hand and she looks at me.

"What's wrong baby?" 

Riley looks at me then her mom and she cries even more and I see her struggling to move again.

"I can't feel my legs." she yells out. She was freaking out as I could see it in her eyes. She pulls the covers from her legs and she lifts herself up on her arms struggling a bit and she looks down to her legs. I think she was trying to make her legs move but only her toes were moving a bit.

I take Riley's hand again and she was crying and I could see she is not happy.

"What's happening?" she yells and she cries out. 

"Someone please tell me." she demands. 

Just then one of the nurses came in and they showed us all to step away from the bed. We all step away and the nurse was busy pushing Riley down. Riley was trying to get up from the bed. She was trying to move and the more she does she was freaking out more and more.

"What the fuck is happening?" she yells. The nurse keeps pushing her down. But Riley just keeps fighting back.

"Let me go." she yells at the nurse and the nurse takes out a needle and she injects Riley with morphine I assumed it was that.

Ava step outside and Tim followed her. Soon Riley calms down and she stares at me. Her eyes slowly starts to close when the morphine kicks in and she was soon asleep again.

"I'm sorry but it's the only way I can get her to calm down. The doctor will be here soon. He needs to check up on her before she can move herself."

I nod when the nurse explains and she leaves the room. The doctor soon came and he did his check up on her. He asks all of us to leave the room and we waited outside for him.

He comes out and he goes to Tim and Ava. I see them talking and Ava and Tim just nods. He walks away and Ava and Tim makes their way to us.

"The doctor says that the spinal cord is recovered. She still needs to go to therapy so that they can help her to walk again. It might be months before she can walk again. If she plays along and do what they say. Part of what she does and the therapy will all be the outcome of her walking again. But other than that she has short term memory loss but she is doing very well with her recovery."

That I already knew not the spinal cord being healed but the other things I did know.

"So how long will she be out now?"

"Till tomorrow morning. They want to start the therapy as soon as Riley is ready."

I nod and sigh. Seeing her so confused and helpless was really hard for me to take in. All I wanted to do was help her.
