SCENE EIGHT

(CHRISTINE at play rehearsal. CHLOE approaches, flanked by BROOKE. MR. REYES is also there.)

CHLOE
Is this seat saved? (points to the seat next to CHRISTINE where she put her backpack)

CHRISTINE
Oh, yeah, it's uh—

(CHLOE sits down anyway after shoving CHRISTINE's backpack onto the floor and kicking it across the room. MR REYES sees this, but turns around and doesn't do anything about it.)

Michael looks over at Chloe. "Stone cold bitch-"

Chloe stares at him. She says, "Well, I mean, I was a bitch- still am one."

"Oof."

CHLOE
Jenna Rolan said she saw you at the mall with Jake last night.

"You were at the mall too...?" Rich says.

Chloe replies, "Just because I was at the mall doesn't mean I saw them."

Rich shrugs and turns away.

CHRISTINE
Yeah, that's... who it's saved for...

BROOKE
Jenna Rolan?

JENNA ROLAN (popping out from behind the curtains)
I'm right here.

(Everyone ignores her, so she goes back behind the curtains.)

Christine hugs Jenna, not wanting her to feel left out ever again. Jenna smiles at her and hugs her back, feeling very loved. (ah yes, I am such a great author lol)

CHLOE
Jake's not coming.

"That'th what I thaid whenever you two walked off to have thex-" Rich remarks with a chuckle.

Jake replies, "Oh shit-"

"Well, it'th true-" Rich replies. Chloe looks at him, slightly offended, but also agreeing.

Michael just says, "oof."

CHRISTINE
Is he sick?

CHLOE
He's at Model U.N. Or whatever it is this week. You know Jake. Always jumping from one...extracurricular to another.

CHRISTINE
I-I don't know him that well, so...

CHLOE
Well, he loves to try new things. He just doesn't always... stay with them after he...tries them. If you know what I—

CHRISTINE
We're just friends.

CHLOE
What?

CHRISTINE
I know you guys used to date. So, if that's what this is about...

CHLOE
Oh my god no no no! Jake and I are totally over!

BROOKE
Yeah, he is so gross.

"He ithn't groth. I'm groth!" Rich says. Jake gasps.

Jake defends him, "Richie, you aren't gross- you are the most handsome boy."

Rich replies, "No, you are-"

Jake wraps Rich up in a big hug. "I love you so much."

Michael pipes up, "Get a room!"

CHLOE
He is not gross, Brooke! (Beat.) Friends. I'm so glad. Because, real talk, I would hate for you to think that the reason Jake's not here...is he's already bored of you.(beat) Bye!

Rich sighs and rolls his eyes. He was still thinking about when Chloe and Jake were together. That relationship was quite toxic and based around physical relations. He hated watching Jake in that relationship. Jake clearly wasn't happy with Chloe.
