Slowly running a hand over the little girl's brown hair as she slept curled into her lap Sam glanced around again, Mama and Papa were curled up on the sofa with two young boys curled into them while the twins and Luke were in the kitchen skinning what looked like what had once been a wild pig; doing so on the island which Mama had covered with a sheet which stopped the blood going on everything. The warmth of the fire behind her was enough to make her want to curl up on the rug under them and sleep but she couldn't let herself do it when she didn't feel completely safe, Luke's blue eyes continued to glance at her whenever he had the chance and it unsettled her to no end; the heat in those blue eyes almost burning her worse than the fire behind her might should she get too close to the flame. Mama and Jamie had seen to it he didn't touch her when they saw how Sam would pull away whenever he got too close, Lily had seemed to make it her job to sit and groom her having disappeared for a little while before returning with a worn comb and wet cloth surprising her with attempts to clean her; despite trying to refuse gently Sam had given in when Jamie came and took over gently cleaning her as his sister began the slow task of combing ever not from her hair. It had been a long time since someone had combed her hair and despite trying to resist Sam relaxed in hands of the young girl, the scraping of the combs teeth along her scalp becoming a welcomed sensation as her eyes had fell nearly shut; that was until the twins and Luke had returned into the room nearly slamming the door shut behind them as they carried in a very big and dead wild pig between them. Since then Lily had come to curl into her drifting to sleep under her gently fingers as they stroked and combed through her hair, while Mama and Papa sat letting Jamie and Logan curl up beside them on the sofa in front of her; none of them seeming bothered the sound of cutting ripping of the animals carcass behind them. After the worst of the noise had died down Sam began to ignore it letting herself focus on the girl in her lap, as well as absently keeping an eye on Luke's large form as he helped Trent and Jasper prepare the meat not too far away fighting the urge to give in to the warmth trying to lull her to try and sleep that her body no doubt wanted and needed after the stress of the last day or so; she didn't know exactly how long she had been here but from Sam's best guess she had slept a few hours after blacking out which meant she had been here nearly a full day since the sun had set some time ago. No one would be looking for her since scouts who went missing were considered dead until either their body was found to confirm it or they returned on their own, the rule had been set to keep as many safe as possible with the amount of infected people roaming the area looking for potential partners; no one wanted to risk more lives than necessary meaning if you were outside the camp walls you were on your own.
A pang of sadness settled in her chest knowing she would see the few friends she had again, feeling something warm and wet hit her hand Sam looked down finding a drop of water or her hand; bringing the her free hand up she wiped her cheek finding them wet and warm. She hadn't even noticed she had been crying and quickly wiped her other cheek and eye trying to remove the evidence of the trails they had left behind, hoping no one had seen them not knowing how they would react to her crying; the situation she was in was new and strange enough as it was without her falling into a crying fit in the middle of an infected family's den. Hearing movement Sam looked up watching Trent and Jasper come towards her two long metal which had meat skewered along them, both of them were watching her carefully as they approached stopping a meter or so in front of her and Lily's sleeping form; the twins had been very cautious around her since their earlier introduction treating her like a flighty animal always watching her as they moved around her. Sam knew they were more likely worried they scared her since Mama and the children were the only ones she let touch her so far, Papa had tried to come and reassure her when Luke's arrival unsettling Sam with the look in his eyes clearly showing her he saw her as something other than a sibling; the action had however surprised Sam enough to fall into her survival training. She had moved away from the older man as quickly as possible putting herself against the closest wall with the door way to her side so she could run if needed, she must have looked scared because Mama quickly growled at Papa before approaching her with slow movements hands up trying to show she wasn't a threat; all the children not far behind her whining lightly upset by her own distress. After Mama spent time seemingly trying to calm her down Sam sat with the children watching the others from the corner of her eye, she didn't know what they were doing as they made small noises amount themselves what little words that were exchanged too low to be made out but it felt like they were talking about her; and despite the children's efforts she couldn't shake off the unsettling feeling it left behind. Once Luke and the twins left and Mama and Papa settled Lily began grooming her which had helped Sam to settle down even when the three came back with their kill, but the ways they were behaving now was odd leaving Sam unsure what to do; if she played along it might lead to them being overly watchful around her which meant no freedom to move on her own leaving or chance to possibly get away from them if she needed to. Licking her lips Sam leant down to carefully bring Lily up and into her arms pulling her smaller form against her chest pushing herself to stand, offering a shaky smile towards the two unsure if she was making the right move Sam moved aside carefully as she sat on the other sofa out of their path; more than aware of the three sets of eyes watching her as the twins inclined their heads towards her before moving to set the metal poles on stands over the fire showing Sam how they cooked.
