"Girl, I would not have minded missing this," Angel spoke under her breath to Bri who sat beside her wearing the same bland expression. Tossing back the rest of her champagne as if it were a shot Briana discreetly nodded in agreement.
After getting on the same page as Kai again, letting him meet her parents who loved him, the last thing Bri wanted to do was ruin that by having to curse his mother out. That's why she opted to skip out on Sally's birthday party knowing it would be some shit. Needless to say, Hezekiah invited Bri and her family there so she obliged him.
"I'm just gonna keep drinking and ignoring the shade Sally keeps throwing. I swear, if I wasn't trying to get right with Kai," Bri sighed while rolling her eyes. "And mama sick of her shit too."
Sally started up with Bri at the door. Bitch had the nerve to say she thought her son had finally gotten smart and gotten rid of the trash. It took everything for Bri not to show her ass. Luckily her mom put Sally's ass in her place. Hezekiah had to usher Bri's parents to the table with his grandmother to keep the peace.
Angel and Capo were another story. If Sally hated Briana, she loathed Angel. The funny part was Angel didn't give a damn and used every opportunity to embarrass Sally. Both she and Capo entered the party high as a giraffe's ass smelling like a pound. Sally was livid! The two of them could do nothing other than giggle while she cursed them out.
"Girl fuck her," Angel waved her hand dismissively. "She ain't seen nothing yet. She's really gonna be pissed when I pull Capo in the ladies room and give him the business... Loudly!"
Bri almost spit her drink out laughing at her silly ass sister. The sad part was Angel was dead serious. She and Capo had the craziest relationship but it worked for them. They were one in the same.
"Babe," Hezekiah walked up and wrapped his arms around Bri's waist. The halter style dress she wore left just enough skin exposed and Kai couldn't help but place a kiss on her collarbone. Briana started to blush instantly.
"Yes, love?" She replied with reddened cheeks.
"Dance with me? I requested a song for us."
Just as Hezekiah said that the DJ started to play Rome's I Belong to You (Every Time I See Your Face) and Bri couldn't help but smile as he pulled her close and sang the words to the song softly in her ear.
"Every time I see your face It makes me want to sing , And every time I think about your love It drives me crazy..." Kai sang as he and Bri swayed to the beat.
This felt right. This was right. Briana was it for Kai. He felt in his soul that this woman was his better half. They had been through the storm and conquered it all. There was only one thing left to do and as the DJ switched the song over to Jesse Powell's You, Kai pulled back and placed a hand down in his pocket.
Briana's heart damn near stopped when she saw the tears welling up in his eyes. "Baby, what's wrong?" She asked reaching up to stroke his cheek.
Grabbing her hand Kai placed a kiss in Bri's palm, "That's the thing... Nothing's wrong. Since I found you everything has been right. My time without you felt like idle time. I had no clue what to do with myself and it felt like time was not moving. I do not ever want to feel that way again. So..." Kai pulled a black velvet box from his pocket and dropped down to one knee. "Please, tell me I don't have to. I don't want to spend another second without you. Say you'll make me the happiest man in the world, baby say you'll be my wife."
Briana's hand flew up to her mouth as tears fell from her eyes. Every set of eyes in the room were on them, but all she saw was Hezekiah. He was growing nervous as Bri stood there crying her eyes out.
