It's been a month since we parted at her apartment.
Yellow sheets drowned in vanilla scent
Pancakes and eggs readily prepared
"Breakfast in bed", she said.
It caught me by surprise that she beat me to it
It was me who would always do this.
"They look burnt", she said in excuse
"Nah, they're perfect." is all I felt.
Sweatpants, sleeveless shirt
Ruffled hair and big brown eyes
The last thing I saw, arms not willing to let go
I glance to her, giving her that last smile
Before I clicked that elevator door
Hoping it would malfunction
"I'll see you in thirty days," I said, trying not to look into her eyes.
"I'll wait," she replied.
The door opens and I get inside
I close my eyes hoping she wasn't crying on the other side.
Every time we say goodbye,
Baby, it hurts.
"I miss you" she texted last night
"I wish you were here.", I reply.
"Eight more days, my love." she counts.
"Eight more days and I'll have you all in my arms."
"You're cheesy!" she responded but I could tell, she liked it.
"Eight more days, right? That's seven more sleep."
"Ugh. Seven more sleep."
"Hey, it starts tonight, doesn't it?"
"I wish you were already here with me."
"Ah, now you're cheesy!" my face flashes with a grin.
"Didn't you just say you wish I was with you?"
"Every single time, Shen Yue."
"I do too, Didi."
"Just eight more days", I say for the last time.
"I can't wait.", she replied.
I smiled,
We were under the same sky at least.
