NEWT POV:

"Hey, can I sit with you" asked Thomas. "Fine" I said annoyed. Thomas sat down next to me. We sat there in silence. "I found this in the woods" said Thomas. I looked at Thomas and he reached inside his pocket and grabbed the bracelet I left in the woods. "I figured it was yours and I have a matching bracelet" said Thomas. I took the stupid thing. "Thanks" I said annoyed. "Newt" asked Thomas. "What" I asked annoyed. "Do you hate me" asked Thomas. I was a little surprised. "No, it's not that I hate you greenie" I said. I signed. "I just don't want to get attached to people who are going to leave me" I said. "So you just push everyone away without giving them a chance" Thomas asked sarcastically. "Yes, it's better I'm alone" I said. "No, you can push everyone away but not me. I will stay by your side no matter what. I promise" said Thomas. "Don't make promises you can't keep" I said. "I don't" said Thomas. "And what if I was half griever" I asked. "What" asked Thomas. He must not have learned about the grievers yet.

"Okay listen up greenie" I said pointing up and turning to face Thomas. "You see those guys there by the fire" I asked pointing at the runners. Thomas turned to look. "Those are the runners. And everyone morning when those doors open they run the maze" I said pointing to the doors. I put my hand down. "Mapping it, memorizing it, trying to find a way out" I said. "How long have they been looking" asked Thomas. "3 years" I said. Thomas was surprised. "And they haven't found anything" he asked. "It's not as easy said and done. Listen" I said as I pointed up and turned back to the maze. We were silent and heard the maze changing. "You hear that, that's the maze. Changing, changes every night" I said as I put my hand down.

THOMAS POV:

The maze changes? "How s that even possible" I asked. "No idea but the runners are the only ones who really know what is out there. They are the strongest and the fastest of us all. And it's a good thing two because if they don't make it back before those doors close then they are stuck out there for the night. And no one has ever survived a night in the maze" I said.

"What happens to them" asked Thomas. "Grievers, I saw one before" said Newt. "What happened" asked Thomas. "I don't fully remember. I hit my head that night" said Newt. We were silent for a moment. "I wouldn't care if you were half griever Newt. I still trust you" I said. Newt looked at me as if he was trying to read my face. "Well uh, that's enough explaining for one night. Come on, you're suppose to be the guest of honor" said Newt. "No I" I started. "No come on, some one has to show you around" said Newt. Newt pulled m up and we started walking. "Hey Frypan" said Newt. Frypan came out of the kitchen. "Show the greenie here what bacon taste like" said Newt. Frypan grabbed a piece of bacon and tossed it at me. It took a minute till I caught it. I took a bite of the bacon. That is good bacon. I kept eating the bacon and Frypan smiled. "Eat up greenie, you're going to need the energy for running the maze tomorrow" said Frypan. "Wait what" I asked. Newt and I started walking away. "The keepers talked it over earlier. We agreed that you will try the different jobs until we find what you do best but you start with being a runner" said Newt as we walked.
