Split up, each team member was trying to find a plant Coran needed to further his knowledge of something Keith had no idea he was even studying. The planet was not the strangest planet they'd visited so far, in fact, it was most like Earth. It had trees, grass, plants, even flowers and clouds which meant rain. Much to Lance's joy, the planet even had some oceans which meant that he got to check around those areas whilst the other Paladins went more inland.
However, the planet wasn't completely like Earth; it had lower oxygen levels and in some contained places, had strangely natural spots with high levels of Sulphur dioxide, which was normally created by humans. And the colouring of things was different. Trees were blue; their trunks a murky yellow, grass was red, most other plant life was red and the flowers were pretty much normal if you ignore the ones with weird tentacle things protruding from the petals that waved around seemingly with their own minds. But the water was a pastel pink, created from the hot pink sky.
(I can't remember the science of oceans' colours but I think it has something to do with the sky? Correct me in the comments if I'm wrong and I'll change it. I'm such a dumbass, lol.)
Due to the lower oxygen levels and the Sulphur dioxide, they weren't really allowed out of their lions and if they did, the Paladins had to keep their helmets on.
This was fine for Keith-he hadn't much wanted to leave Red that day anyway and this planet just gave him a bad feeling for some reason. His mind was distracted by the voices now coming through the coms, giving him and the others instructions.
"The crystals can be found in caves around the planet but are more likely than not surrounded by vegetation; if you find caves that aren't, then don't bother going into them, they have no relevance to this mission and they could be dangerous. After all, the information we have is over ten thousand years old."
"Then why are we using it? By now it could be completely useless and wrong!" Lance's loud and slightly exasperated voice was a immense change from the smooth voice of Shiro inside the Black Lion.
"Because Coran needs the crystal and we don't have any other information, Lance." Pidge joined the fray and chirped out her view.
"Then why didn't we get any new information before we were sent on this mission?"
"We didn't have time, Lance, Coran ran out of supplies suddenly at a very important point in his research and so needed them quickly."
There was silence for a moment before Lance's voice sounded again yet extremely disgruntled this time.
Keith laughed quietly before chipping in himself, "Coran, what does the crystal look like so we know when we have found it?"
"Well, it is very much like a... what do you call it? An opal! It's like an opal from Earth and shines multiple different colours out in the light though unlike the opal, it actually glows pink in the dark due to a substance I am researching on. It'll be pretty easy to spot if you are in the right cave, my boy."
"Got it, thanks Coran."
"No problem!"
Silence fell upon the coms until Lance, once again, broke it. This annoyed Keith as he was trying to focus on finding the cave which was hard due to the vegetation that was surrounding everything but a few caved he'd seen, which were utterly void of it.
"Are you sure there are no people living on this planet, Coran?"
"Yes. I'm sure." The Altean sounded distinctly weary from hearing this question so many times before from the Blue Paladin. Distantly, Keith could hear Lance grumble something about wanting to meet some pretty girls.
643 words.
