"This is a cute picture." I scrolled through my photo stream on my phone and found one of Levi and I sitting together on a rock in the forest.
I liked it a lot, I thought it was pretty. I opened Instagram and uploaded the image. I didn't want to edit it so I left it without a filter. I decided a simple heart emoji would be enough for a caption.
Within a couple minutes I had a few people like the picture and one or two make small comments like "Cute!" or "Goals!", but nothing huge.
"Hey darling." Levi came into the room and walked over to me on the couch. When he reached me he gave me a kiss on the forehead and picked me up so he could sit underneath me. He grabbed the remote and turned on the TV, switching to the animal planet channel. A documentary about wolves was showing and I had a sudden realization.
"Hey Levi, I have a question that I don't know if you can answer." I sat up a little and looked at him.
He looked back with his brow furrowed. "Yeah tell me what's up."
"When we first met, my wolf Isabelle was so noisy and loud, and I could feel her talking to your wolf. But ever since then I haven't heard from her at all. She was normally a very large part of my life but it feels like she isn't even here anymore at all. Is that normal."
He looked baffled for a second, but then he too looked concerned.
"I haven't heard from my wolf either." He sat up quickly and looked like he was thinking intensely about the situation. "Nicholas, my wolf, was very active when I met you too, but after you passed out he too stopped talking." He looked over at me with concern in his eyes.
"We need to talk to someone more experienced. This is serious." He took my hand and pulled me off the couch and made his way to the door, pulling me along with him.
His pace was hurried and understandably so. Our wolves are essential parts of our lives, without them we are almost nothing. They are another part of us that we as a species cannot live without. Our wolves are our souls.
"We can visit our pack doctor, it's probable that she will know what's going on."
I nodded and continued with him. As we passed through the pack house, we were given little glances by the other members. I do suppose it is a little weird for the Alpha and Luna to be almost running through the house.
We kept our pace and quickly made it to the pack Doctor. We went inside and walked straight into her office.
Clearly and reasonably startled by our impromptu entrance, Dr.Gould gave a little shriek.
"Alpha Levi, Luna Dawn, can I help you?" She asked sheepishly.
"We apologize for the sudden arrival. But we think there's a problem." Levi looked over at me with concern, and I nodded back.
"What's wrong? Are you both ill or could Luna be..." she trailed off looking at my stomach.
"Oh! No, no no. We're sure it's not that." I said quickly. I took a seat across from her desk and Levi stood behind me. Dr.Gould seemed to relax a little and looked calmer after our surprise entry.
"So are you both sick?" She pulled out a paper to take notes.
"We both haven't heard from either of our wolves. It's been over a month an a half. The last communication we remember is from when we first met." Levi spoke up.
"Oh! That's normal!" We both looked at her in confusion.
"Your wolves are getting to know each other, just like you two are getting to know each other. It's something all new mates experience." She said normally, but we were clearly still concerned.
