CHAPTER 9

Kelsy

"And what time do you call this, young lady?"

I stopped halfway up the stairs and turned around slowly.

"Morning Dad" i said brightly.

"Kelsy, come downstairs, I need to have a word"

I faked a yawn. "You know what Dad, i've had a long night, im really tired. Can we talk later?"

"Now"

I sighed and followed him into the living room.

"Where was you last night?"

"At Tasha's"

He let out a slow breath and rubbed the middle of his forehead. "I rang Colette when you never showed up last night Kelsy. Tasha told her you went home with some.. boy?"

Ohh GREAT! Thanks a million Tasha. I'm sure there is like some sort of girl code where you dont tell your cousin's dad shes sleeping over at her boyfriend's house!

"OK Dad, i stayed over at my boyfriend's house. I left the party late... lost track of time. And his house was nearer so he took me there because he didnt want me out on the street late at night. Because he cares."

"He cares? Well as far as I'm concerned, he doesn't care enough. He doesn't care about how worried I was all last night. He doesn't care about having the decency to even call and tell me you were ok."

"Dad please, it's no big deal-"

"It IS, Kelsy! This is exactly how it started with your mother, out all hours of the night-"

"What are you trying to insinuate, Dad? That I'm going to end up like a slapper like mum? Have a baby in my mid-forties and not know who the father is because I'll sleep around so much, I'll loose count?"

"Course not, love. I just don't want this cycle to start over, Kelsy"

"I can assure you it wont!"

I ran up the stairs and slammed my door shut. I was FUMING! How dare he even compare me to my mum? I'm nothing like her and I never will be! I needed to calm down and I'm too angry to at Tasha to talk to her so I guess my Tayo is my next best confindant. I have a quick shower to freshen up then get ready to go to his house. I make sure I slam the front door on my way out so Dad knows how mad I am and that he cant control me. I'm bad. So sick and tired of everyone taking liberties with me, telling me what to do and expecting me to do it because I'm Kelsy. Well I'm not just Kelsy anymore. People ought to have more respect towards me.

I knock on Tayo's door and Tasha answers.

"What do you think your playing at Tasha?!"

"Kels, babe, its not what it looks like"

"What do you mean 'it's not what it looks like'? You little liar!"

"I never meant to hurt you, Kels, its for your own good to be honest"

"We have a code, Tasha!"

She looked a bit puzzled. "A code?"

"Yes a bloody code! And you broke that when you ratted me out!"

"Wait... what are we talking about here?"

"You ratting me out to Dad! Don't try and deny it, cause he told me! How can you tell him I stayed over at Tayo's house?!"

"Oh."

"Is that all you have to say for yourslef, Tasha? 'Oh'??"

"Tasha mannn, I told you not to open the door if it looks like another raasclaart Jehova witness and you ah stan up there havin convo wit them, seen. Beg you close my door." I heard Tayo shout from inside.

Then it clicked.

Everything began to click.

Tasha's opened Tayo's door.

With her top few buttons undone.

And her cheeks are really rosy and pink like it only gets when shes excited.

My eyes began to fill up with tears. Surely theres a reasonable explanation for this.

"TASHA! You never heard what man said?"

"Tayo, c-come here" she called out to him.

I heard him kiss his teeth then his footsteps.

"What?"

"Kelsy's here" she whispered.

He looked at me up and down as if I was filth. "What do you want Kelsy? Always fucking harrasing me"

"Don't talk to her like that, Tayo. She's my cousin"

"So now you want to be family Tasha?! You don't know what family is!"

"Kels, I'm so so sorry." Tears started to dribble down her cheeks.

"Shut Up! Just SHUT UP! Why the hell are you crying?! Its me that should be crying, your sleeping with MY boyfriend! Tell me its not true, Tasha, tell me its not true!"

She shook her head then nodded like she was confused. "I want a straight answer Tasha!"

"Kels, I love you, I swear to God. It just happened, I-I never mean to hurt you cause your all I've got, I'm sorry Kels, yes. I did, but I'm so sorry"

I dont know how it happened, but I felt my hand connect to her cheek as I slapped her. She was in hysterics now, crying. "YOU FUCKING SLAG! YOUR NO COUSIN OF MINE!"

Tayo pushed me onto the floor and held her in his arms. Then he took the final blow to my heart and said "Thats my gyal, you fucking dikhead! Dont touch my GYAL!"

I sat there, trying to work out if I heard him right. Tasha is his girlfriend? What about me?

"What about me, Tayo?! You love ME!" He slammed the door in my face, but I wasn't going anywhere soon. I clawed at his door screaming at him to open it. He did after 10 minutes. He held me under my arms and dragged me out onto the pavement.

"If you so much as look at my yard again, ima call the feds init. Stay away from Tasha too, because firstly, man's sick of your frousy pum up in his yard and secondly I never would be dumb enough to love someone that looks as mash as you so you got replaced. Now fuck off"

I got on the bus and everything was kind of a blur. I only got off the right stop because its the last one. As I walked in, Dad leaped up from the bottom of the stairs and was about to start having a go at me until he saw my face.

"Oh, Kels, whats happened, love?"

couldn't even answer him. I just walked past and when I got to my room, I couldn't even muster up any energy to slam it.

For the first time ever, I was truly happy. I thought I had everything: A good Dad, sister, a cousin that doubled up as bestfriend and a boyfriend.

For the first time ever, I was someone worth stalking.

Now everthings changed, my worlds crumbled and I feel so .. alone.

What do I have to live for now?

I cried myself to sleep that night.
