They ran. They ran.

But they couldn't seem to get anywhere.

Trees blocked their every way. Branches scratched at their clothes, slowing them down. Forcing them to stop.

But they wouldn't. They refused to stop.

They refused to die at the hands of that beast.

Ellie's glowing orb was the only thing that kept them alive. Roy followed closely behind Ellie, his golden bow at the ready.

Behind them was nothing but pitch black and deafening silence, however, they knew that SOMETHING was following them, getting closer and closer.

They ran, their breathing getting heavier and heavier.

It was hard for them to keep their footing; roots and the uneven forest floor made it hard for them to run.

Every now and then, they saw bright pink flashes in their peripheral vision. Pink flashes that looked like glowing eyes. Adrenaline could only last for so long.

Roy was worried about Ellie, who looked as if all the blood left her face; she looked ready to faint again.

They had to rest. They were lost.

"Ellie, stop." Roy said, grabbing hold of her arm.

"What?! No!" She cried. "Do you have a death wish?"

Roy let out a frustrated sigh. "No. I certainly DON'T want to die."

(Not until our daughter I named Korra inherits the kingdom.) Said Roy's brain.

'SHUT UP.' Roy told his brain

"Just," Roy sighed "Look. We've been running for forever. We tried to go back the way we came, but we just couldn't. I know I could keep going, but you have to rest."

Ellie waved him off. "No, Roy. I CAN keep going. Just because I'm a girl doesn't mean I can't handle-"

"You running for another mile is out of the question." Roy said, cutting her off.

He held up his hands to explain.

"Ellie, listen. I know you can handle situations like these yourself... but I can't stand the thought of you getting hurt." He said sadly.

Ellie softened at his words. His golden eyes filled with pain.

She sighed. "Fine. So, what now?"

Roy brandished his bow.  "I'll scout the perimeter. You rest."

Ellie groaned at the thought of just sitting while Roy probably did all the work, but she knew there was no arguing with him. Besides, a part of her knew she had to rest. It would be much harder if she just fainted.

Instead she nodded begrudgingly and headed for a nearby fallen tree.
She sat down, her palms on her knees.

Roy went to her and gave her a hug.

"I'm not as good at hunting as my brother is. But I'll try to bring it down. Then we could get out of here safely. Just stay low. I promise I won't leave you behind."

"Promise?"

"Promise."

Ellie looked up after realizing something. "How can you see without my light?"

"Don't worry." Roy said reassuringly. "My bow helps me see. Even in the dark."

Ellie raised her eyebrows in surprise. "I didn't know that."
